  • dollar general sale - seeds

dollar general stores. (that's the yellow weed that is popping up out of the ground)

currently has a 90% off sale on most of their garden stuff..
rakes, small hand tools - yes they are cheaply made but 90% off! you don't lose much when it breaks!

seeds. packages say 1$ or 2 for 1$
this means left over seeds are either a dime or a nickle per pack.

we are refrigerating ours... freezing may be better... i'm not sure... i've heard both stories.

I freeze mine and everything I planted germinated successfully.

most dollar general stores in my area are sold out of seeds now. especially those in small rural villages.

then i saw one in a small shopping mall and checked there.

i don't know how to do a "happy face" or i'd put one here... hmm. :D maybe this will work?

folks in the city don't care about seeds!

        update on DG seeds.
we stored the 2021 seeds in a barn refrigerator.
then about 10 days ago decided to put some in the ground.
after about 7 days the sprouts are coming forth...
different varieties have still not appeared...
        --
bride stopped at a feed and seed store, and bought several varieties of "beans"
they are popping up within ?6 or less days.

we both came from gardening families. we both didn't like it. too much work.
we both are concerned with the craziness in the world today. we both like to eat.
        so. seeds in the ground.

I grew up as slave labor for my mom's huge garden, but I never got over my love of gardening, canning, hunting, fishing, foraging, and all things self-sufficient. Plus, I also like to eat! I picked my first yellow squash and zucchini today, and I'll cook them for dinner on Wednesday. I have some beautiful spaghetti squash that's producing like crazy, some cuter-than-cute acorn squash, and I planted sugar snaps, limas, peas, and black beans.

I find that the older I got, the more I became my parents, including their distrust of centralized power and elitist oversight. We live in "interesting times"...
