  • pruning... apples pears

the following is related to the backtoedenfilm.com mentioned earlier which primarily discusses soil and cover and mulch

the same farmer, but a different internet source.

btw, l2survive calls himself a prepper... he is not "paul" but I think he's a neighbor?

    anyhow,
I'm ignorant on pruning, so internet reading and this is one of the best videos I've found...

and the hero is someone I've already liked...
so... i'll be sawing and cutting today....

if you've got any secrets, please share...
610? others, I'd love to hear your comments

I also recommend the video "Permaculture Orchard: Beyond Organic". Here is a preview of the film: http://www.permacultureorchard.com/the-film/ He shows how to prune and a ton of other stuff. Send me a pm.

Here is an update from the film: http://www.permacultureorchard.com/f...-update-video/

pears are a couple of different varieties.
Asian, Bartlett and old fashioned knotty pears.
at least that's what we call them.
the Asian and Bartlett are the best tasting..

granny smith apples and something else that looks sort of similar, but we don't know the name.
the granny smiths are average... tree is large... on some years they really produce heavily and tree is large so
I'm trying to encourage it along... pruning and heavy mulching...

I mentioned this in another thread. Hope I don't hurt any feelings. I have a lot of varmints around here that have to be kept out of the coop and away from the other farm animals. Once terminated , what to do??. I take a post hole digger and put a hole around the drip line of the trees about 30 40 inch's down , slide the varmint or fish left overs down the hole and fill the hole back up. The trees seem to like this and it solves the what to do with the remains. Just don't dig the same hole twice. My dad used to go fishing just to get trash fish to bury (under) the new plantings he had great luck doing this. I can't recall him ever to lose a tree or bush, never saw anything but old cow poop and rabbit poop used on the garden.

            cpt,
I just killed a snake... the garden is taking a break this year, but snake is buried therein!

as a kid we'd put fish cleanings in the garden shovel deep... I'd forgotten about that... thanks for the reminder...
