    I love my milk...
    for my age and weight, I probably should reduce use, but I love my milk!
    (above stated to establish myself as an "expert" in the field of milk tasting!)

    wife reminded me that we needed another gallon.
    we remembered that we had some dry powdered milk in the storage closet and decided to try it.

    packed dec. 2010 in a #10 can.
    marked... can store for 20 years if dry and temp of 75 degrees or less.
    our storage for a year was 75 deg or less and for last 3 years was 80 degrees or less.

    simple formula.. 3/4 cup to a quart of cold water... I used water from the tap. cool/not cold.
    stirred it a lot with a wisp.

    guys, I was expecting something horrible. it wasn't. it was real good...
    for one thing it wasn't as "cold" as my normal milk is...
    it was a little thinner.
    and a slight. real slight powdery hint to the taste...
    I'm going to add a little more powder next time.

    but I feel a lot better about the quality and taste... I could drink this or add to cold cereal or
    oatmeal with no problem for the rest of my life. I asked wife about the "thinner" taste, and her response was
    "it has no fat" hey! that may be good for me!

    question... what is storage time in the refrigerator? it probably doesn't matter. because, now I don't start with a gallon...
    2nd queston... I used plastic lid on the #10 can and put it in the cabinet...
    any special suggestions on how long this "opened" can will last?
    or any instruction on how to store the opened can to extend the quality of the powdered milk?

    I'm getting some more.. and plan on using this more regularly...

    We canned those packets of dried milk in #10s. Temps were 80+++++++.
    After five years we opened them...taste was OK...kid used it for breakfast we used it in cooking. Life in a fridge id say would be standard. Wed only make a gallon at a time.

      the first "batch" was finished off yesterday..
      update... it tasted better yesterday than when first stirred up...

      I don't know why...
      unless it is because we shook the container each day!! before using...
      also, it was refrigerator cold...

      this will become our regular milk.

        Reconstituted milk does improve in flavor in the refrigerator. Back in my married days, I used to make it up and chill it overnight before filling up the store-bought milk jug with it to sssssstretch the milk supply. A 50-50 mix of fresh and reconstituted was undetectable, even for drinking, by dry milk skeptics in the family. I personally like the reconstituted milk having acquired a taste for it while dieting.
