  • Stabil vs Pri-G

Can anyone explain the differences between these 2 products or do they do the same thing?

If they do the same thing which one is better and why you think so?

I use Stabil in my gas for the winter months for my lawnmower and chain saw but have heard a lot about Pri-G but didn't know if it was worth buying or not.

I use PRI-G for my gas and PRI-D for my diesel. I own a lawn service and had a spare tractor sitting outside under a tarp for 2 yrs. until my main tractor broke down. The gas in the spare was treated with PRI-G and left there. When I needed it, it started right up and ran fine on that 2 yr old gas which was in the heat and cold outside. I am sold on PRI products.

have you used it on 2 cycle oil mixed fuel like for the chainsaws, weedeaters etc? How about kerosene? would that be the "D"?

If your set on only storing fuel for the very short term, think Stabil.

If your looking at putting up fuel for the long term, think PRI.

We put up aaaah fair quantity of off road diesel in 1999. We treated it then and have since retreated with PRI-D. It's still chugging away fine in heavy equipment, a tractor and diesel genset.

Paid $.55 cents a gallon for the first batch and then later in the year paid the "unheard of" price of $.85 a gallon for the off road diesel. Had I known then what I know now..... They would have been a lot more in storage.

Gas we typically rotate every 2 years, some cans have went 4 without a problem- treated with PRI-G.

Had a lot of people asking a few years back would it work with the new ethanol blends. PRI rep replied with some big chemical analysis which basically boiled down to PRI was the perfect thing for ethanol blend gasolines.

On the kerosene issue- I would expect the diesel preservative would do fine with Kero, but don't hold me to that. We have nothing that uses kero except a third or fourth tier backup cookstove, so we only keep about 10 gallons of kero.

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

A few weeks ago I contacted the PRI-G people and they told me directly that I should use PRI-D in kerosene, and that it'll work very nicely.

I've used seafoam, sta-bil, and now I'm gonna try PRI-D & PRI-G. I like that fact that (at least from independent research) that it can restore bad fuel and keep the good stuff going strong.

                Thanks!

I've been using PRI-G in my boat fuel for years now. I have had no fuel related problems since I started using it. I think that it works out cheaper than Stabil because 1 OZ treats 16 gallons. I have a quart jar of gasoline that has been treated with PRI-G that has been sitting in my garage for 3 years. I have been looking for signs of phase separation. I looks like it did when I sealed the jar.

                      PRI-D for old Diesel

When I talked to the PRI guy I specifically asked for documented proof that their product does what it claims to do (both stabilize and/or revitalize 'rotten' fuel). He passed along a document to me, which is just about all the proof I need that it works as claimed.

I tried to attach the document but it's FAR larger than is allowed (it's just over 1mb, .pdf). Perhaps I can get permission, as I think this is significant.

                      From the document:
The Tennessee Valley Authority contacted PRI in 2002. An annual inspection of their diesel fuel tanks at the Allen Turbine Facility revealed that fuel stability had drastically deteriorated. The TVA was faced with one of two choices. Their first choice was to dispose of 1.8 million gallons of fuel and replace it, incurring a very significant cost. The second choice was to locate a solution to restoring this fuel to a useable state.
Upon completing treatment with PRI-D diesel fuel treatment, the Tennessee Valley Authority saw a number of benefits:
PRI-D restored their fuel to near refinery freshness
PRI-D stabilized their fuel for the following 12 months with a single treatment
PRI-D insured that their fuel will be ready for use at any time
PRI-D saved them significant money by eliminating fuel disposal and replacement costs
PRI-D increased the overall stability rating by 76%
                      Hope this helps!

I've used Pri-G for a few years and it works.

As for kerosene, I've used kerosene that was 10 years old in a kerosun heater with no problems/odor. I wouldn't bother treating K1.

I used Sta-bil. The directions on the bottle say to double the amount for 2 year storage. I did. I recycled the gasoline 1 and 1/2 year later and it worked fine. I haven't seen the PRI-G product in the big box stores. Is it special order?

I bought mine online but I've never seen it in stores. I've heard that it's sold in boating related stores.
