no. had to use my DVR,then find all my pics,plus find other ones and the mesh them together on the movie maker......2 hours later LOL
trying to time the pictures to the voice over was the hardest.

my biggest issues-

since i dont script i gotta think,talk, work camera, stay on point etc all at once LOL.. one man band ! LMAO.
more like a 3 legged cat trying to bury a turd at times lol.So when i get between points i will say ummm to force my head to stay on topic and not go into a different topic.


I just figured to hammer home the idea/point that-

1- the core items we all need stay the same no matter how we plan( 1 week-1 year)
2- the only difference is the amounts( 1 gallon vs 300 gallon cistern)

I had a long talk more like a " so how do you do..." q and a with a complelte newb to all of this. Kinda motivated me to do this style of film to drive home that point.
I tried to do it with with my BOB series, food,water,shelter....gotta have them..in the BOB, inthe BOV, in the BOL and in life with out those 3 we die. This was an extension of that point more or less.

lotta work goes into a film like that..it is so much easier to just talk to the camera...lol

Speaking of cisterns, here are the problems I am having with my rain barrels (early cistern test)...

1. Roof shingle grit and dirt entering tank
2. algae and "green goop" making the water not very useful except for garden watering.

I am still looking for an "automatic diverter" that will discard the first several gallons (grit & dirt) and then switch to the tank after... The manual ones are out as not workable... Who is home all the time or going to run out and switch a valve in the rain?

Maybe my tank needs to be shielded from sunlight heat to avoid algae and green funk from growing... Maybe buried (but then hard to clean out)?

I think for MY SITUATION I might be better off using a cistern as a HOLDING TANK for my WELL rather than try to use rain water for potable purpose. The well pump is controlled by a float switch to fill the tank and a separate high pressure pump takes water out of the cistern per demand.

I wish I knew more about ancient cisterns and water collection and how other countries who use cistern keep the dirt and algae at bay...

Has anyone used a reliance water can?

The one I am looking at will hold 7 gallons has a hideaway spigot for about $11.

Is there anything in particular that I should be looking at? Obviously I will need to double check to make sure it is the proper plastic but didn't know if there was anything else.

those are the aquatainers. They dont stack well and even when not stacked will get cracks in the corners. The spigot will also crack where it screws to the jug.
I bought a bunch around 99/2k ( 4) they all got cracks( also the reliance jerry can style got cracks. dunno if they still produce it or not). I switched to the blitz brand and larger water barrels soon after. not one issue since.

eta: yipthey make the desert patrol jerry can that i had that got cracks as well.
You can almost see through the corners of the aqua tainers i have( the last few i kept for washing vs drinking due to teh spigot cracks)

Speaking of water, I recently purchased a Platypus clean stream gravity filter. I took it on a recent camping trip and I am quite pleased with it. It purifys up to 4 liters at a time and best of all no pumping. You put 4 liters of water in the "dirty" bag, hang it up keeping it higher than the "clean" bag and in about 5 mins, you have 4 liters of clean water. The only negative I can see about it is if the water source you are getting from is very shallow or narrow then it might be hard to scoop up water with the bag. But overall a great system.

I look at rain barrel/rainwater collection principally for watering animals, irrigation and a backup to the backups on our water supply.

What are you using now for the rain barrel to screen incoming? On 55-60 gallon barrels we just pulled the standard lid off, replaced it with window screen. The wife holds that tight while I screen on the screw top. If you do it right it's tight like a drum. It will catch the shingle leavings as well as most of the junk. Also, hard for insects to get in then.

the blitz ones can be had ( least locally for me) around the 6-10$ area. I got mine for 7$ a pop about 4 years back.
try looking at auto parts stores etc. I have seen them in there as well ( pep boys,autozones etc)

Well for me and my area it will be more cost effective to go with Coleman's water can/jug. I went to the Blitz website and found the list of stores and the only store in my area that had it was Sears and I would have had to pay shipping to boot which would have put the cost to about $20. I just checked O'Reilly's Auto Parts and they only have the Blitz fuel cans, Autozone online was the same way. Oh well, I'll keep an eye out for them at these types of stores.
