folks,
invitation to post any reviews of prepackaged mres or other camp/survival type food.
ameriqual foods - chicken and rice
i don't know the age.. maybe it was on the case it came from.
i haven't bought or been given any mre's in years. so I'm sure it's 7-8 years or older.
includes
powdered orange drink for 12 oz of water... very good
small packet of dried coffee i added to large cup of hot water. weak! then i realized the pack said add to 6 oz.
sugar and creamer packs added to the weak coffee helped a little.
heater in a plastic bag... didn't work or i did something real wrong... it finally gave off a little warmth but not enough to heat the chicken/rice at all.
2 small ?chicklets? pieces of chewing gum.. very good.
fudge brownie. large, thick and "heavy tasting" but there was a "lots to it" good.
vegetable crackers...2 of them, each about 4" x 4" looked like thick saltine crackers. more chewey. not tasty, but thick and hearty. (tasted much better with the p'nut butter)
peanut butter was in a foil pack. opened a corner. tasted like pnut butter that might be a little old. but it sure made the crackers taste better.
pack of chicken and rice. i ate this alone as other items eaten while i thought the chicken and rice was being heated....
this was a very large serving. i didn't expect there to be much chicken. but there was a lot of chicken. the wife and i are on low activity for a few days.
enough chicken and rice for 2 folks. when heater didn't work, i put the pack in a pot of boiling water. pot was small so i rotated the pack several times for about 15 minutes... very good quantity and texture, but there was a small hint of a metallic?? smell??
tobacco sauce... very small bottle... i don't usually use the stuff, but i did on part of my chicken and rice. "HOT as blue blazes."
if I'm in a group setting or camp, i'll probably trade off the hot sauce to someone.
overall i was impressed with this product... except for the heater.
folks i had some associates get stranded in their car in the Atlanta ice storm. ages 80+ they nearly got in trouble with the cold. (too cold and no food problems)
made me realize i needed to be better prepped in my normal vehicles.
