  • Food Storage for Pets

    Hello everyone!

Haven't been around in a while as I am going to school full time and working full time so my time is limited.
My question is, do ya'll store food for your pets? If so what are you storing and how?
Is it possible to put dried cat and dog food into mylar bags with O2 absorbers for long term storage or should I vacuum seal?

    Thanks in advance

I want to say Lowdown did a post about this a while back. Can't seem to find it though.

Yeah, I searched first but couldn't find anything that fit my needs.

OK, 5-7 years without any special packaging and in high heat and humidity. So I am assuming I could probably double that by using O2 absorbers and storing in a dry cool place?

          Thoughts?

I wouldn't bother packing dog food in mylar...

We use 55 gallon pickle barrels.

Ol Roy and similar el cheapo brands usually end up with a 1 inch or so layer of white at the top. Pull it off, throw that in the pond for the fish. The rest has typically been fine after 2-4 years.

The green bag better dog food (Dog chow or something) I have not seen that white layer in a couple years.

We rotate ours so fast, we keep a couple barrels in long term storage and then a couple barrels that are constantly being used up and re filled.
