I am not sure how you guys got started and stay motivated when working towards "preparedness" but I would like to give my take (I am still a newbie so take this with a grain of salt). I think Goals should be created using "S.M.A.R.T." (just do a search for S.M.A.R.T. Goal to get some details). For me I use this in my Prepping goal setting. I started small and worked up. I will out-line some of it below…
But first I think that preparedness is not a target, no it is mindset of continued improvement. You can always be better prepared so you will never be done. If you had enough food to last a life time, well you could surely learn something new, if you knew everything you could surely be better fit, etc. You are never at a state of preparedness, no you are on the path to it. I started small and keep working on small parts with a plan and a target. When I finally decided to start prepping I started with what is most likely to happen and work towards bigger and bigger things. I am currently working towards my "6th" step or mini-goal. So I am no where near complete or even that experienced at this. What I hope you get from reading through this is Make a Goal and break that down into smaller goals and/or a plan of action and get to work... My plan most likely will not be your plan (nor should it be).
Step 1. What is the most likely “SHTF” event for an individual in the US?
Step 2. B.O.B more accurately a Get home bag.
Step 3. 1 Week
Step 4. 3 Weeks
Step 5. 3 months
Step 6. 6 months
Step 7. 9 months
Step 8. 1 year
Step 9. Sustainability
This is only what I have done and how I feel... I am new to this "movement" and still have alot to learn (I will always have alot to learn). So you more experienced guys please give any additional hints/tips/tricks you feel are worth suggesting and please point out any mistakes I have made.
