Haven't reached my goal yet...just started packing about a year ago. Started with only 3 weeks in the pantry. Now have about 3 months in the pantry and 3 months in LTS. Food isn't the only thing you need so I've been 'spreading the wealth' between that, medical, water, gear, bullets....the list goes on. I'm trying to balance things so I accrue everything I know of for the period I have food for. Makes it slower going but it makes ME feel better knowing I've covered all the bases I know about. Are there holes? I'm sure there are and, as they are identified, I'll go back and fill them.

i wanted to pick the last one sooooo bad lol.

last i checked i had the standard calorie counters years worth ++. i kinda did the pound per person per day to over stock.
but with us now self producing our food..some of my food is now being canned vs mylared.

but imho it aint enough,,goal is to keep adding more "food" via plants. prolly build some raised planters so i can position herbs/food beds around the house as well as what the garden outs out.

i just realized the question is what is your goal?
my goal is one year plus.
i consider food/water the most important objective.

at a seminar, a female was quizzing one of the speakers over and over again with the same question... how much food do i need? how do i know when i have enough? the speaker was very calm. and answered the question in many different ways.. i even jumped in with a couple of answers... she will be researching till the day she dies.

i think the answer of what is need is 7 years.. it's happened before... but i may never get to that point..

but 6 months will be better than 3 months and and 1 year will be better than 6 months. the other factor is ... will my kids make it home? they live a long way off.
will my brothers and sisters? they live a REAL long way off?

how do you know how many you are prepping for...?? so when i get to a year,
i may think i can lock the door and be "saved up." but.. my son and daughter are sure welcome.
my uncle and aunt are dr. and nurse.. they are getting old, but still doing well.
            welcome? yes.
bro in law and sis-in- law..? i give them preparedness food. he's a dentist.
and gives us good dental rates. i owe them now. welcome? yes.
my mother? old, but doing well. all kinds of homesteading knowledge. welcome?
            absolutely.
cousin 1 is a veternarian. welcome ? yes.. he has 6 kids... good to have on board, but 8 extra mouths!!
cousin 2 is contractor. welcome? no. but i'd feed him for a day, before he went on.
well, you get the idea. i could get to 2 years storage for me and my bride, but if the veternarian shows up, i'm back to 5 months.

most of us are thinking way to small

It will happen again... Will it be in our life time? Who knows!

Back to goal, My goal is a year... but currently I have a plan for the "6 month" mark and working towards that. When complete that I will create a plan for the next "increment". Small incremental but measurable moves towards the goal works best for.

If I went out and tried to work towards the year goal, I would have been overwhelmed and most likely discouraged. Instead I broke it down.

We have about 6 months in buckets and FD and about 2 months in the regular and extended pantry. We almost exclusively eat at home so the pantries are kept well stocked and rotated. A great deal of this is home canned produce.

I don't count the 2 full freezers and livestock as storage food because in a very bad situation they could become perishable in a hurry, but if added in with the stored food we'd be at well over a year That's also not counting this years garden and orchard.

I am to the point that I am prepping primarily stuff I cannot produce here on the homestead, food stuffs that is. If I cannot grow it, I'll purchase and stock it deep - like coffee. Somobody, somewhere will eventually grow enough coffee plants to be able to sell/trade/barter it so I just have to ration what I have until that point. Same with sugar and rice. Most everything else I can produce enough to be good to go for a long while - renewable/replenishable is my watchword these days. I basically could survive 2 growing/harvest total crop failures if that happened back to back, but it would be getting realy skimpy by the time that 3rd harvest rolled around!

We've met our goal set years ago but we continue to plan and put away supplies. I don't know that we'll ever 'have enough'.

Definitely need more coffee. Before it was just the wife, now I'm a caffeine junkee too LOL.

Got a boatload of cheap stuff and the wife cuts it with the nicer stuff. Got some old skewl stuff from 96'ish that I put up for a relative that drinks coffee (I didn't at the time). I need to pull some of that and see how it fared. I'm guessing pretty good being it's old full metal #10 cans.

I have about 1 year's worth for 8 people, but six people are bringing their stores, too. My goal is 3 years for 16 people. We also have meat on the hoof, chickens, eggs, garden etc.

My goal is a year's worth. I know I have about 3 months now for just the two of us. Not sure how many of both sides of the family would end up out our place if things went bad though. I know my mom and the in-laws do nothing to prep. Don't even consider it necessary.
