  • 1 year food supply preference

I've just been looking a several web pages and various 1 year food plans. It's pretty confusing, by nthe time you look at calories & contents between the various companies. I have about a 3 months supply just from local shopping. but I think In want to buy one of the freeze dried packages, just for the long shelf life advantage.
    What advise can you give?

As someone in the food storage industry I can tell you that a lot of the pre packed units are full of filler items. These are cheaper items you could pack yourself and save some money on.

For example, a lot of pre packed units contain a fair amount of wheat, rice and beans. While these SHOULD be a part of a one year supply, it is stuff that you could easily pack yourself and save some bucks, then buy the rest ala carte.

Thanks I was wondering about that. Also many have juice drinks. My wife & I don't drink juice now, do the powdered drinks really have a good vitamin base?

They aren't bad but consist mainly of sugar. It's a good change from water though :)

No reason you can't use a pre packed unit you like as the basis for your own supply- pack the grains and beans yourself and then order the milk, dairy, fruits and veggies in #10 cans separately.

Just trying to save you some bucks. :)
