Oh I thought you didnt like the phrase "platoon rations" =) that is why I said I was sorry...
Rats are a hazard, but hey if you have rats they atleast let you know your storage area has a hole in it somewhere.. (sometimes a improperly installed door)...

It's all good. I know I forget the correct term for those and assumed you were referring to tray packs. It wasn't that I "didn't like the phrase".

So many things are termed 2-3 different ways, it makes it hard to follow sometimes. Also, some things are called certain things but they are different animals. Example- "razor wire" and "concertina wire." Two different things but the names are used almost interchangably at times depending on who you are talking to.

Another example- I said "rats" and should have used the term "mice." What we have to deal with isn't large city type "rats" as much as small field mice. Doesn't matter how tight your storage building is, they tend to find a way in. I've given up on storing any food related items in cardboard boxes. Also humidity is a bigger problem here than it probably is in TX. I know times I've been down in Sealy/Berkshire area training, it's hot as hades but WONDERFUL to me cause their seems to be very little humidity and always a breeze blowing. A great area for wind power probably!

It's all good, sorry for miscommunication, I had totally forgotten about platoon rations.

I thought razor wire and concertina wire were similar but definitely different?
My knowledge is that razor wire is the basic OUCH wire, and concertina wire is razor wire wrapped around a center reinforcement wire. Is that wrong?

I've never been able to find according to Hoyle "concertina wire" to purchase. But I've purchased more than a little bit of razor wire in years gone by- mostly to sell but I did keep a little bit for the homestead.

"Concertina" is generally used in large coils. Razor comes in a small ribbon like wire on a plastic reel. Or at least the couple of pallets we purchased in 1999 did.

The razor variety would be more usable for the average homestead. It does HOLD on to you and is pretty darn nasty stuff.

razor wire is a mesh of metal strips with sharp edges

Concertina wire or Dannert Wire[1] is a type of barbed wire or razor wire that is formed in large coils which can be expanded like a concertina. Each coil actually consists of two oppositely wound helices which support each other against crushing while allowing easy longitudinal movement.

This came from wikipedia, I also checked out KDY and they said similar things
            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concertina_wire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razor_wire
razor wire, razor wire flatwrap, razor barbed wire, razor wire concertina, razor wire coils

From my experience with concertina wire is that it will wrap you up in itself, the movie "Legend of the Fall" had an example of what I believe was concertina wire but don't hold me to it. Hope that helps. Either way they are both good deterrence and they would probably make a very nasty combo.
