Good Post. I have posted many things here on traps. It's a skills set and material you want on hnad and want to be familiar with now rather than trying to learn after something happens. We covered them during a get together. I'm a big fan of having all types and sizes for both land and water and utlilizing the ones that damage for other things in defense measures as well. Even if they dont kill they break down the mental game of a would be attcker. A simple gopher trap can be used to take away cover for a would be attcker because if he hides behing that tree and sticks his hand in it as he lowers himself thats gonna change the game right there. I also use them as signals for both audible and visual signals at night.

I have setup Deadfalls but have not been overly successful with them, if I had to, I could have a few meals of small animal crackers, I guess. With a dead fall they usually get pretty well flattened. Yes just like an animal that has been hit by a car. The meat can be eaten BUT being bruised and blood soaked it does not taste the same and is going to be very gamey. The best meat will have to be trimmed away from the rest. I know I can hear some of you now, "well in a survival situation I'm gonna eat it" yeah ok, try it first there then get back to me

Another NON Alcoholic variation of the beer bucket is a five gallon bucket, a ramp, two cans with holes in them –top to bottom, some fence wire, peanut butter and water in the bottom of the bucket. Drill small holes in the top of the bucket, opposite the handle lugs – put wire through one side of the bucket, then through the cans, then through the other side of the bucket. Keep the wire tight so the cans will roll, smear the cans with peanut butter, not too close to the edge but more toward the center of the bucket. Add 2”-4” of water to the bottom of the bucket, set it where it needs to be, then add the 3’ or so, ramp in-line with the cans. I'd really like to see a picture of this please

I could give hours of rambling testimony,,,, here is one of the best, most comprehensive, educational references on trapping I have found. Tends to be a bit elementary but it is GREAT for the beginner and curious alike

My wife asked me to set traps for coons today, our corn is tasseling/earing and the immediate enemy has their Radar switched on.
We have talked a lot in different threads of the forum about traps, I thought I would put together a little list of some of my Grandfathers hand-me-downs that we might put into serious play someday, if needed.

Protecting our crops is something we all think about but we usually only consider the two legged crop stealing vermin. I have used the live-traps for years to protect the crops and the terminal ones to protect Dams, Barn floors and Pastures from Groundhogs.
