  • Living off your preps, a trial run.

Do you ever take a week, 2 week, or even a month and try to live off your preps only. I am thinking about trying it and using my grocery budget to buy more preps. I think it would show me the holes in my preps. Really, most of my preps are things we use regularly anyway.

Right now, I am thinking my Diet Coke addiction might be a real problem. :o

When I go to town it's an event and they won't see me again for at least a month. More if I can help it. :)

I think you'll find that you spend a lot less money this way. Being well stocked means you can wait for things to go on sale and can pass things up if they aren't. It also helps eliminate things from the list that you think you need, but after a few weeks without it, you find out it wasn't all that necessary. Buying in bulk from some stores it's worth it to talk to the manager and see if you can get a deal. Sometimes stores get overstock they need to clear out or they are expecting a new shipment in they need to make room for. Never hurts to ask. It's also a good idea to find out when they restock items. That's the best time to get there.

We have freeze dried and dehydrated foods (purchased) we consider our "deep" preps, that we're still building up. There more expensive and I am hesitant to use them just yet - I'd like to keep adding to them at this time. We have cases of "everyday" foods that we continually rotate and replenish. Then we have our own dehydrator foods we use all the time. Like you we store what we eat regularly. We don't drink soda pop so I can't help you at all there, what we will miss is ice cream! LOL

i did 7 days once years ago.
I just went from "store what you eat" aka extra cans of this and that..into the LTS world.

I made out a basic menu and stuffed what i thoughti needed for 7 days in one small tote. Thats what i lived off of.
Needless to say day 8 i was 12 beers and 50 hot wings for the better by days end LMAO.
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

I am thinking this won't be that difficult, though DH doesn't want to do it until we get moved into the other house. I don't yet have a lot of the LTS stuff yet, but we have quite a bit of food stored. A freezer full of chicken, pork, and rabbit. I haven't bought eggs or milk since last September and we have a small garden. I might be in for a big suprise, though. At any rate, it should help me see what we are missing in our storage. Failure now isn't critical, it could be if the SHTF.

i do it quite often.....it's kinda like a soft fast....but it's only practice.....you know that you an call it quits anytime you want....

turn of everything from the outside, then try it again, gets a little freaky when you gotta do without bathing to conserve water....etc
