Yep, I did it. And boy do I feel stupid. We were packing some buckets this weekend and discovered we had 75 pounds of rice - full of bugs. So mad at myself. We were going to pack another day and decided to get a few more things so as not to waste oxygen absorbers.... DUH! Instead we wasted 75 pounds of rice. :mad:

Your not the first it's happened to, you won't be the last.
Makes great chicken feed so it's not a total loss.
Honestly, unless it's absolutely teeming with bugs, I'd pack it up with mylar, DOUBLE the amount of absorbers, make sure you have a good seal and leave it for a couple years.
I'd mark the container "PB" or something you will remember as "possible bugs". I can't tell you how many dead weevils I've seen in pre- mylar and oxygen absorber packed buckets over the years. Including the infamous picture of weevils floating around on a BAY LEAF in a sea of rice playing "The Love Boat" on the bay leaf. You know, bay leaves, that will "stop bugs" right?? :)
Their is still hope, I'd pack it if it wasn't that bad. If it is, chicken feed.Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Thanks for the advice. Right now I have it in the freezer. (Oh, and this is rice I froze for a couple of months!) I hadn't planned on throwing it away. I was thinking things like dog food (combined with some eggs), chicken food, or even people food.....
Speaking of rice and eggs for dog food, we ran out of dog food one day and with the price of gas and the distance to town, it was much cheaper to cook up some rice and throw in a few eggs than drive to town. Plus, the dogs LOVED it.

Everytime we put down animals, esp. cattle - chickens, we use the not so neccessary parts to make pots of Dog Food - a few, less than prime time vegetables, Rice and the meat scraps add a little Juice from the meat, a few eggs and water - Super Banquet for the Dogs! Freezes well and is quite a bit better than bag food.
Great for giving pills or treatments - they gobble it down!
Avoid ONIONS!Do the right thing, because it is the right thing to do!
