Do you have a place that will be absolutely secure where you wont lose anything or it all to raiders, looters or if you get burned out?

Are you sure enough to use credit card debt!?!

half of this list will still be lying around after it hits and the initial die off ifit is SHTF. In other words I think sharpies will still be lying on the floor of the store untouched in PAW and bar oil can be any car, lawn mower, tractor oil which there should be plenty of and light bulbs that take electricity which who will be keeping it on? but if that option is there I'd look at the cree led bulbs for longevity and minimum kilowatt usage.

Whats got ya so jittery brother?

      • I am a ****** for cheap "saveable" items.

Found myself stocking some things that will come in real handy. In the PAW, or next week.

        Safety Pins
        Clothes Pins
        Tea Candles
        Wheelbarrows
        Foot pump bicycle pump
Hotel Shampoo and soap ( I could supply a county)
Ramen Noodles (chicken flavor all day)
        Playing cards
Small ball bearings for my wrist rocket
        Tarps

I really want a pick axe, a maul, post hole digger and NVG... :)
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

            absolutely secure? NO..

credit card question? i don't understand question.. can you be more specific?

stuff laying around? hmm. you may want to delete those items from list. various members recommended them. they may want to give detail of why they added item(s) it's getting late.. i agree with their suggestions.

            keeping lights on? great question.

jittery? lol... i think the usual response is "move on. nothing to see here"

Maybe Matt's question about whether you were sure enough about using credit card debt was in reference where at the end of your post you mention "hmm. thinking about sending the wife and the credit card to the store... do you think this stuff will go bad if i don't need it in the next 6 months? i might should send 2 credit cards!! rr" - - maybe using the credit card(s) and having a large(r) debt to get items isn't the best plan..... (not saying you would do that, but based on how the post could be interpreted). :)

This is on just trying to see what or why it is time to use credit for general supplies.

                • thanks sniper and matt, wow -early risers!!
                  the inquiry has 2 parts..
                  the first is timing---
i have no idea when the shtf.. i hope it never does!

the second part of the question relates to using a credit card to make the purchases..
in my post i asked how much will the whole list cost and will this stuff go bad.
apologies for not having more clarity in my comments... what i meant was that the whole list won't really cost that much... especially after one deletes out the things that they already have or ain't gonna need. if your bride already has a huge box of sewing stuff, you sho ain't gonna need no needles. however if you have a very heavy duty commercial sewing machine, but you don't know where the needles for it are, then you might want to get ya some!! and most of these things don't "go bad."
and each of us who want to prep can delete the things that will just be laying around and easily available... as matt was saying...
one reason to buy now, is that i see a growing inflation rate.. i think things will cost more later... so it is a good idea to buy supplies now...
but bottom line... some folks use credit cards and turn the purchase into "debt"
some folks use credit cards as a convenience and pay them off at the end of the month... and some folks get a little "cash back" or 5% rebate towards another purchase... some pay cash, and some use a check... folks, up to you how you make your purchase! personally, i recommend reducing debt. thanks for the encouragement to clarify!
                  .

                  • Folks, if you haven't caught it yet, RockRiver is playing around when he asks questions like "should I prepare" and similar. I first met him about 10 years or so ago and he's been a regular at the GA and FL public gatherings for years and a big asset there.

He's a thinker and likes to pose the "what if" questions around the campfire. We kid him about that, but I see the looks on a lot of people's faces during this time, it DOES spur a lot of thinking amongst folks. He is a professional in his field (not sure if he retired yet) and is serious about preparing. I've never seen him do anything rash, nor panic is a truly panicking type of way. He throws a lot of stuff out there to get the consensus of thinking on subjects.

Sorry to embarrass you RR. :)

                    • thanks ld.

if there is anything to the following it should probably be over in gen discussion..

the guy that shared his econ concerns with me called at lunch. i told him this story and about my post, my reference to him (without a name) the list, the comments. he laughed. made some remarks that i won't publish.
                      then said...
                      1. check the 10 year treasury notes... the interest rate is up 80% since may.
                      2. moody's is looking at a downgrading of all the major u.s. banks.

ok "basics" folks.. my contact is nobody important. but he follows the markets. i hope one of you guys can confirm, deny, discredit, explain the above info. i have an idea about the two comments above, but i choose not to expound as this is out of my league. my comments would amount to a guess, or a belief, or a swag. take this freebie and make your own call, added to the other info on this site, and your other sources.

heck, i may just use cash! phooey on credit cards. matt was right.

lol. now, where did i bury those dollars? lol.
out here behind the apartment building somewhere.
it was near a green plant with big leaves.
or was it on the balcony under the pot with our tomato plant?
                      gettin crs! lol
                      yee hah.

rockriver - the lists do cause one to think, just as the post about t notes and moody's.
I think the cash is near the sunflowers - LOL. Or not........ ;)

wife went to big lots and sams..
she spent 178 $$ at big lots and 240 at sams.
cheapest thing 1$ for a pack of 10 drink flavors... (comfort item!)
most expensive...18$ for a 500' of HD aluminum foil

i'm planning on no cigarettes, no booze and no zombie movies till our finances get restored...

                            bottom line: the big lots
receipt is about 4feet long. 98 items..
sams bill included nothing over 19. (list target price was under 20!!

the point being... you can make a big difference in things you need (per posters here!) without spending big bucks...

I think a big "What If" question right now is what will happen with Syria... I'm not to worried about Syria and their ally Iran. But Russia and China have both warned the U.S. that bad things will happen if we send in our military to Syria. We have ships there right now... Russia has sent Syria Anti-ship missiles. Do the math..

The gas guy on the radio said just today that gas prices just went up due to unrest in Syria, not just due to the Labor day holiday. If things go wack-a-doodle over there, oil prices will sky-rocket. I doubt our fragile economy can handle $7 or $8/per gal. gas.
