lol I love that and have to agree with you...my family thinks I'm nuts that I even learned and practice (daily) self sufficiency things such as making my own bread and pasta and learning to grow veggies, planning things like having a small farm that will feed my family.
Facts are facts, even those we love we cannot always help let alone save them. I have grown children, one lives around the corner (currently) and the other that lives in the northern part of MS (the other end from me)..I wont go pick up either of the boys, they are grown and know that so long as they get with and stick with the plan, I will always be there for them and any future families they may have....the same goes for my brother and his family, my mother, father in law and the husband's sisters (including their families) and 1 close friend.
But I am not taking food out of the little one's mouth's to feed an adult. I am also not going to go pick up anyone, those that I would be willing to have with us at the (future) land, will know how to get there...to the rest of the world, I am going to be that crazy reclusive woman that thinks learning to live like a pioneer is fun.

You know, I always thought "Sempre Fi" originated with the military but read last year that it's first known use was in a town in France in the 1500s. It was adopted as part of the town charter.

thanks for the trivia on that, I use an edited version of that for life.."Semper Gumbi" aka Always Flexible....with school, kids, the DH and everything that all of the above entail, rigidity is not an option, no matter how much I crave structure.
This is tough one to address. Shoot, shovel and shut up may end up being the way we would have to go. We have been getting organized for four years and having recently moved to our BIL. Daugther lives 8 miles away and is quite mentally ill. Her boyfriend is an x marine and x cop is diagnosed with a fairly severe mental illness also. They are unpredictable and would be liabilities. The only one in the family that is still sane is the four year old. Grab her and run? We don't yet have anyone near us that we are aware of as survivalists but are hoping to meet some soon. Got to sleep sometime. Its a real hard situation. Trying to balance the huge liability with the "blood being thicker then insanity." God will have to guide us when the time comes. It is an awful thing to think about.

Prepping is like insurance. You feel you need to have it but hope you never have to use it. Let's hope it never comes to "shoot, shovel and shut up..." but we can still enjoy learning about being more self sufficient, more able to help ourselves and others in a natural disaster, learn healthier living alternatives, how to save money on things, etc....the list goes on and on.
Even if the we don't experience teotwawki me and Patriot Lady feel a lot better about being a bit closer every day to being able to work through the challenges that would present. Family is definitely a tough issue, Maid Marion. The only one we worry about helping get to our bol is our son. He's about 5 hours away. He was just up for a visit and we gave him the BOB we put together for him and instructions for various scenarios (some involving us not being able to communicate) and we worked through what we would do under various circumstances. The rest of the family is far away and would go to family much closer than we are.

Thanks for your words of wisdom Justified. We will continue to hope and pray it never comes to the point of having to make such a drastic decision. Its a tough one for you guys to have your son five hours away but considering all of the posts I have read by you in here......he has learned alot of good solid workable information that will serve him well if the need ever comes to having to use it. I for one have no doubt your son would make it home.

Well he better either drive that sports car of his really fast from TX to OK or trade that puppy in for a 4X4! LOL
Marion, we've been prepping for about 12 years but many of the folks on this board have been prepping for many more years and have backgrounds and vocations that have served them well for preparing for various survivalist situations and they have invaluable information and experience they have shared on this forum. We have added a great deal to our learning since we joined this forum and are greatful for the shared knowledge that we can use for ourselves and share with others.
