  • Food storage...in the trunk of my car

Its gettin froggy down here in Florida folks and I have decided its time to fully implement a "go" bag and gear in the CAR. I have a BOB and I'm usually not far from home these days but with whats going on here lately I want to keep what I am going to call my "Active shooter/GHB" rig. I have an FLC right now I'm planning on using for this project. I've attached a waist pac to the back, 2 1 quart canteens with water purifier pills and it has some mag pouchs on the front. this won't be a sustained fire fight kit it will be a more of I had to ditch my car or if i needed gear to deal with a short duration firefight like an active shooter or if I got caught up in a riot. I wanna throw some shelter and food into the waist pack.

I would be keeping this in my trunk of my car year round. its florida and the trunk gets hot. what should i use for food??

I keep a couple of 2 year old out of date Meals rejected by Ethiopians in mine. When I occasionally open one (last time abt a month ago) I discovered that:
Main entree and side dish survived
Drink mixes (dairy strawberry milk shake last time) do good.
The 'snack bread' was still awesome (my fave part of an MRE)
squeezee cheeze like product was good.
Fake chocolate 'Hoo-Rah' bar was excellent
    REal chocolate M&M's sucked.

cliff bars - they hold up well in the heat down here(ive eaten ones frommy truck that were 3yrs old..look im normal :P )
      some dried fruit /gorp/trail mix
Lots of drink mixes- emergency imho.
active shooter wise i wouldnt load up on foods, just stuff if your bound up over night will keep you going( aka the cliff bars)

this is what i keep in my "shooter " rig. besides ammo for your type of get up.

      3 cliff bars
      5-7 drink mixes
      electroltye tablets
      survival straw
      gallon zip lock
      6x6 sil tarp

this gives me the basics to rough it out if i get stuck over night or have a chance to nab a snack. This way if i lose or dump the GHB i always have something.

i would keep extras in the truck in a pack ( like my mule or a hawg) in it toss in your sustainment junk and some extra ammo.
i'd put in 2-3 entree's, some more drink mixes, a water bladder or some platypus bags and at least 3-4 more cliff bars.

think of it as the rig is your ONE day deal,,the pack extends that to 2 days..a larger bob makes it 4-6 days.......

like said MM's dont fair to well.....

Mainstay bars do very well and are eat on the go. Ditto the cliff bars. and double ditto on the hydration above all because when it gets hot, not in temparature, the sweat rolls and the stomach flops

I second the mainstay bars. I tried a 7 year mainstay bar that was in my trunk all the time and it was fine.
