@RyanMac: there is a youtube video of a guy making superpails, and one of the things he does is dehydrate frozen veggies to reduce their volume and extend their shelf life (without the need of electricity for the freezer)... sorry I cannot remember the video's name or the author...

Excellent vids. I learned a bunch from them. Now to invest in a dehydrator and vacuum sealer. Any suggestions on makes and models?

@protus your long term storage video is still most viewed
#1 That's because our video has been up for years.
#2 The guy in the video is absolutely handsome and brilliant (LOL)
#3 We were the first with putting that on video. And even the material you see was first done a couple years before solely for Frugals site but the camera work was rough and we wanted to clarify a few points. I got sick of trying to explain the process in words and figured SHOWING it on video was a better prospect. Yes I'm a "visual" learner also :)

I won't mention that we both endured a literal poop storm about packing "feed" wheat in that video. Even though we NEVER "advocated" packing food like that. And heck, we could have been packing the food for ANIMALS. At the beginning practically everyone thought that was wrong. People started buying it, realized it was essentially the same thing they were paying 10X more for, and started buying and using it themselves.

We had every "expert" that had packed six buckets in their whole life post stupid comments like "you HAVE to use dry ice" or you "have to use DE."
We showed PROOF of the results of our work and gave logical, sound reasons why those "six bucket experts" were wrong.

yeah the 1st year the vids went up, we prolly wasted more time on the web fighting so called food storage "experts" over the packing methods.
I rememebr contacting walton, honeyville etc and getting the info for how they packed it, showing those "experts" how, what we showed viewers in those films was the EXACT same thing the preparedness food industry packed their LTS for sale.
We caught more flak for doing that.
Then in came the dry ice and " DE" moonbats...... who insisted that even though those major LTS food suppliers did not say that they use DE they did...riddle me that batman?! LOL
Oh the dry ice is so much easier than O2 absorbers......that using trash bags was safe for LTS ( i'll let LD explain that one...but even last year people said they did it that way).
It was always easier for those with "massive" preps to fall back on the shaking camera, zoom button clicking or even how someone talked attacks then adress the facts.

Heck the indoor sts, bug movies and freezeing grains films and even the clothing iron movie were done to dispell the internet mantras that so many of those "experts" at the time were spewing off. What is ironic ( i guess we did out part) is that using a clothing iron is now common talk and not a debate like it was only 3+ years ago...........

What is funny is how many "food storage " vids popped up after we waged this dis-information war ( and still ar for the most part)....from trusted sources ( lotta LDS vids out there and blogs.....).

the war against disinformation is still going....as more and more new "survivalist" come to light, they will all ask the same questions....and some "expert" form "long" ago will always jump the "gun" and rattle off the DE,dry ice and non white bucket falacies that do nothing but hurt those newcomers.....

luckly the world has survival super heros like protus and LD ...........now where's my porta john so i can put my cape on,,,, LOL

Their was "one" like that wasn't there? LOL I remember something about "Austrian Tupperware Conversations". ;)

All I did to prep so far today was fight a couple people. I did let a girl beat me, she has been learning a lot and working hard, she deserved it. Worked out also. Gonna run in a bit. Showed the boy some basic rifle manipulations on the red gun (trainer) AK. Cut a truckload of firewood yesterday.

Hy-Vee had a sale on canned goods this week. $0.29 a can. there were 5 kinds on sale. I got 5 flats of each kind. also put back 20 2-liter bottles of water. (by the way, I'm keeping these in the attic where the temps get very high in the summer any problems that anyone foresees?)
Getting together with 2 local members of this forum and 2 or 3 other preppers for coffee sunday, hoping to discuss getting a "communal garden" started for next year.
Keep working at it guys, I'm not the only one who feels things are changing.

Keeping any food items is a hot place is not good. Paper products should be ok. For LTS, food should be kept in the coolest place. I think 40*F would be best.

Re waxxed a few pair of my favorite Rossis, checked and re checked all the snowshoe bindings, poles, found the rest of the mitten collection after recently moving, began a thorough cleaning on a new rifle, , just had a minor medical problem fixxed(hernia).

I also found a few of my favorite and some new canned goods on sale cheap and "preppered" the shelf. @ $0.45 each whole flat.
