  • Anyone try these AQUATANK II water storage containers?

I found these while searching for an option for 55 gallon water barrels. They look interesting if they work...http://www.directive21.com/aquatank.html. Has anyone ever tried these for long term water storage? The best price I can find with shipping for (3) 55 gal. Drums is about $240 and these bags would almost double that amount for a little bit more cost. I am just trying to find the best, cheapest way to do this whole water storage thing. Hubby is resistant to using priorly used barrels.

We used something similar downrange although I think they were a little larger. 2K gallons IIRC, but that's been a while.

They seemed to work okay. Never saw any of them popped or anything.

    Interesting enough idea...

I've seen the USforest service use a simular product for firefighting camps. In my opinion the soft sides would make it hard to store, as you couldnlt store stuff on top of them.
Have you checked with your local car wash place? The one here sometimes has 30 gal plastic barrels that can be washed out and used for a cheap price?
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

I am not crazy about using a soft sided product for long term storage of water. The chance of puncture is too high. As for using CHEMICAL BARRELS to store water That is an absolute NO WAY. I am very familiar with Chemical barrels and you should never ever use a barrel that had any kind of chemical product in it. As for car wash products, I produce them and that is the last thing you need to use. Chemical barrels retain every chemical that was stored in them no matter how many times you clean them out. Bleach will not do it. Bleach burns but does not remove products left in the barrel walls.

I would stick with food grade barrels. You can use barrels used for food flavoring if you do not mind the taste still hanging on. Be sure you like the taste of cucumbers for instance if you go to a place like Kraft Foods. Most of their barrels are 15, 20 and 30 gallon blue barrels marked for what they had in them. GB

As I originally said my husband won't go for the used barrels. He says he thinks the taste of what was stored in them before would still be there even after cleaning them. I guess my next questions is does anyone know of any source to buy new barrels at a decent price? I would like to purchase 3 55gallon drums. The best I could find was emergency essentials.
