  • what food in the exteme heat of your car

living in florida it gets hotter then in most other areas of the country, during most of the year. now, i'm not down playing texas, or arizona, or any other area that has heat, but lets face it, florida is HOT. i'm wearing shorts right now and christmas is less then 2 weeks away.

what i'm wondering is, what food do you keep, or do you think is best to keep in your vehicle, and how often do you rotate it out? what do you think would be best in the intense heat of florida. i have gotten into my truck and it was just below 200 degrees.

personally i keep beef jerky, a trailmix consisting mostly of nuts and granola. i tried dried fruit and that was fine. even after nearly a year it still held up, but didnt tast the same. the jerky and trailmix were almost unchanged.

i've thought of millenium bars, or some other such "survival" bar but havent gone that route. power pars didnt work out so well because they get mushy each day, infact they stay that way most of the time because even in the evenings for months ata time its still in the high 80's or higher and it doesnt allow the barks to solidify again.

so help me come up with some alternatives that will stay good in the heat.

They are good tasting IMO but they are dry. They come in different sizes and if you eat a whole one (1200 calories) as a snack it can be a bit much on the system.
What? Don't judge me! It was a test, yeah thats it a test to see how much the body could take LOL turned out to be more of a test of something else
They are made for storage in boats etc.

i guess some freeze dried foods would work, but i was thinking stuff i could eat on the go without cooking. the mainstay bars say they can handle up to 300 degree heat. i'm not looking for real tasty, just long lasting in the heat.

I vote for the mainstay bars, They are designed for storage in lifeboats and we all know how hot a boat can get! I bought two bricks a year ago for two reasons one was the taste, not bad even my 10 yo grandson likes them, two is the "shelf life" or out date was Aug 2016.

About the only ready to eat foods I know that can take the heat long term are lifeboat rations (SOS, mainstay, etc). MRE's for short term (6 months?) if you rotate them.
