When I was in the Air Force, we heard a story about Army procurement. It seems the Army would order a piece of equipment designed to do a specific function. Usually, by the time they received it, the Defense Contractor had made so many changes to the basic design that it was no long useful for the original function. The Army would then find out what it COULD do, and make that it's function. I'm looking for stories about stuff you bought as a prep item, only to find out that it didn't work. You then found out what it COULD do, and kept it for that purpose. i.e. it didn't work for what you originally intended, so you found "annudder" way to use it. I'm thinking we're a pretty creative bunch, so this could be interesting.

I got one of those wind up flashlight cell phone chargers.......the flashlight sucks and it dies quick unless you are winding while in use but this thing charges my iPod and my cell phone.....it will charge anything that has a USB. Also it is a great "show off" item at the campsite because it wows people like its from outer space or something....lol
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

Bought an IWB Kydex which was a great holster but very uncomforatble against the body. I had bought one of those Uncle Mikes bikini rig holsters which was little more than padded flimsy cloth and a belt holder that didnt. I cut the bikini rig a little and formed it around the kydex used some spray glue and combined the 2 for a wearable holster.

Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.
