  • Monolithic Gravity Water Filter specs

I don't know all the ins and outs of water filters, I am pretty sure that a water filter that filters down to 0.2 microns is good and if it is impregnated with Silver its even better. Someone posted about this brand a while ago and I wanted to get some feedback on the specs they have on their website:

The are made by Just Water.

So does this filter seem too good to be true? Or should I buy a couple?

    thanks,
    elittle

I know my berkey has ceramic filters, but i think they provided more protection than that. But it has been a long time since i looked though. The ceramic filters have an incredable life sapn i know that much is fact. Look up the berkies specs and compare. The black berkey filters are the best for removing all the weird stuff.

I now have a couple. They are slow, not as good as the high dollar brands but appear to work. I dunno about the claim of 2 microns or whatever, dunno how to measure that, just drank some pond water and didnt die LOL

In the grand scheme that's a good thing!
My luck, I'd do as well as I have done so far with my char cloth, and be in a world of hurt.

I just built the same thing using 2 Berkey Black filters, it cost me $114.17 in total, and is rated to effectively remove all virus particles, and almost all checmicals, with the exception of some heavy metals. The Black Berkey filter is good for 3000 gallons each so a double filter unit is good for 6000 gallons. According to the Monolithics site when you do the math of 70 gallons a day for 6-8 months they are claiming that their unit which is a 1/4 of the size of the Berky filters is good for 12600 gallons? (180 days X 70 gallons = 12600)

For a mechanical filter system which they both are; life span is a function of surface area,,,,I'm not sure I buy a 12000 gallon life span for a filter of the size Monolithic is using....But I would be willing to wait and see how it works out for others. Or even try on my own, since the filters are so cheap. (always remember you get what you pay for)

All civilizations rise, rule, decline and fall. Most of us have lived through the tail end of the "Rule" part, and now happen to be living through the decline, and may see the fall. There is nothing really to be upset about, as long as your are prepared for it; it is a natural process, the trick is to not get caught up in everyone else s panic, and the governmental reaction.
