To make your own Baking Powder:
1 tsp. of Baking Soda
2 tsp. of Cream of Tartar
Mix thoroughly and then it is ready to use in any recipe. It is not recommended that you make up a lot of it at a time because with out the cornstartch it will not keep well, it tends to harden.
Why be able to make your own baking powder? Because baking powder does not keep indefinitely, however, from what I have read, both baking soda and cream of tartar can be kept indefinitely when stored seperately in air tight containers away from high heat.
To test the vitality of your baking soda, mix 1/4 tsp. of baking soda to 1 tsp. of vinegar. If it bubbles, it is still good.
For bulk purchases of Cream of Tartar I would look online. I purchased mine from Penzy's Spices. And my Baking soda came from Costco in the large bag.
I hope this is helpful to others in their food storage. With Baking Powder you can make a plethora of items very easily and quickly.
Cheers,
SC
