  • Where do you purchase your supplies (o2 absorbers, mylar, buckets, etc)

I'm looking for a decent supplier for 5 gallon bags, buckets, and o2 absorbers, but the prices seem to be all over the place online. Where do you guys get yours? I'm concerned about the quality if I get the cheap ones, but that I may just be getting ripped off with the more expensive ones.

    Wendy Mae's Simpler Living.

Click the "Frugal's store" ad at the bottom of the page.

Great folks, you'll KNOW your getting quality and you'll be supporting like minded folks versus just some johnny come lately looking to make a quick buck off the preparedness movement.

Ah! Didn't realize that was a fixed ad, so I've just avoided it. :>

check Craigslist.com under general section near your city. You can find 5 gal buckets for $1-2.50 each around where I live.

good thought, I have been wondering about the same question as well. Thanks!

I just went there and they won't be able to supply any long term food storage options. But they appear to be good on Water purifiers. But which one would be best is the next question.

I found an old hand mixer in a thrift store today that works GREAT! I bought a mess of clothespins too! Now if I could just find 50 # bags of wheat locally I do not want feed grade here in FL it would be full of bugs this time of year. EverywhereI find them online the shipping is more than the wheat!! I live west of Tampa, FL anybody know of anyplace. I contacted the cannery in Plant City and they said I need to be a member or know a member that will come w/ me.

Unfortunately I just checked how much it would cost to ship a 50 lb bag of feed wheat from my locale to Tampa via UPS....$40.52...add in the cost of the wheat and its up to $47.

Talk to a local bakery to see if they can order it for you from their distributor when they order their next batch of supplies.

Last year I purchased several 25 LB. / 5 Gal. buckets of organic hard white winter wheat berries at a local health food store. The buckets are sealed but the wheat is not in mylar and has no oxygen absorbers, it was however frozen by the farmer to kill any critters before packaging. I think I paid $20 - $25 each ( thought it was high, but was more confident of quality since I saw a sample in there bulk self serve storage sales bin - you know, where the customer can buy various quantities). Had to order it, then pick up a few days later.

                  Two comments really quick:
                  1) watch the video our guys here have made about long term storage WITHOUT 02 absorbers, will open your eyes a little.
                  2) don't go trusting the "I froze it", most people don't know that some pests take a freeze of TWO WEEKS to completely kill off (thats adults, larvae, and eggs). You might still be able to download the Army's pest management book, when I was in (pulling on old old memory bank here) I believe it was MIL-STD 903 (that is Military Standard 903 for civvies **wink**)

Hi Klayton, Thank you so very much for the military reference guides, I still have a lot to learn. I'm married to a retired active duty member who spent 26 years in the Public Health career field ( sanitation, food inspection, communicable diseases, decon, etc.) Trust me when I say he will not let us eat anything questionable! LOL, Any bulk dry foods need to be repackaged in mylar W O2's. I was just trying to add a new source ( health food store) for possible supplies. **wink** back at ya! Thank you for your thoughtful posts and your service to our country!!

the lds canning factories have the best price that i've found for 02 absorbers.
                      --
i'm not lds. i do respect them - particularly -- on their "turf"
i've read where others shop there then "shown out"
to all who read this.... if we (non lds) show out when at their locations
it is only reasonable that we could lose our invitation to shop, and/or can at their facility.

Frugals, Emergency Essentials. For food grade buckets right now Lowes has some deals going. Lowes says they are starting to cater to the prepping crowd. we buy and don't talk. Stick with main line dealers. I have a guy locally that has bags and gamma lids. buy from people you know and trust. The big thing is support those who support you. Always check with JRH to see what they carry. When you support your friends they support you back. GB
