Not exactly sure on how to LTS the spaghetti I bought from Sams......I have about 50 or so 1 lb packages of spaghetti......Right now they are still in their individual wrappers placed in a 3lb food grade bucket. However I am not exactly sure that I want to chance weevils or other nastys in the years down the road. So my question is....whats the best way to package spaghetti for the long term.....Would it be best to take all the spaghetti out and slap them in mylar with some o2 packets then seal them....or leave them in their 1 lb plastic wrap packages, then mylar and o2 packets then seal...

IN GENERAL- it's always best to remove food you are packing for LTS from it's original packaging.

Spaghetti is the pasta we had the most trouble with in LTS. Went to elbow mac as the workhouse in the pasta department. Almost all the spaghetti we put up in the early 90's was overrun with weevils in short order.

I take the noodles out of the package , Place in brown paper lunch sacks. with a bayleaf. then vacuum seal in vacuum sealer bags. Bugs cant live without oxygen. so vacuum sealing will keep bugs at bay. and the paper bag keeps the noodles for piercing the vacuum sealer bags.( Just a suggestion)

Good idea. Also got spaghetti at Sams. Cut both ends off of orig. pack. then vac. packed in longer then needed bag. Had to do one twice; hitting the seal button a sec. early might save poke-throughs (but you've got that much more O2 in the bag). I'll use (try) paper bag, I like using bay leaves also .

            @ Claymore.
            What I do is this.
Take spaghetti out of package completely.. I break the noodles in Half. (cooks faster that way fits beter in a small pan)
Place 1 bay leaf in the bottom brown lunch Sack , Layer the spaghetti side ways to fit in bottom of the sack It should fit 1 lb of noodles, I add another bay leaf. should look like a square brick. . Place to sack of noodles inside the food saver bag. you can add obsorber. but I dont think it is necessary. but if you need that extra. security , it wouldnt hurt. . Vacuum seal. , date you can wrap the sealed bag in plastic wrap then store in buckets. I do flour the same way, but it only 6 cup increments bags. Good luck let me know what you think. worth a try. I havent had any problems. good luck..

I like the idea of using the elbow macaroni. It seems to pack a bit tighter and is easier to work with.

Just bought a spaghetti (pasta cutter) over the weekend, going to give it a try. Was hoping that i could store wheat and flour and make my own.
