So a year's supply is basically 1/2 ton per person. You can live a month off of your body fat, in most cases, if you just lay around. I recommend lintel beans, red beans, rice, corn, hard wheat, molasses, salt, Criso "lard", dried fruit and venison (snared) jerky. Do not count upon foraging either wild plants or animals for shtf sustenance. Ditto gardening, for a year. It will be far too dangerous to be out and about in daylight. You can perhaps service fish traps, nets, and trotlines at night, but that is about it, as far as ongoing foraging goes. After a year, nearly everyone will be dead, so it will be safe enough to have hidden, scattered, small garden plots.
