  • No longer a 6 bucket arm chair

I have made it to 7 buckets :) Put up 50lbs of rice and 10 lbs of sugar (I did not put any O2 absorbers in with the sugar).

Next to put up is some corn.

    LOL.

A couple people have emailed me regarding me mentioning "six bucket experts", not understanding what I meant.

My meaning is the people that really have no serious experience packing food YET speak like experts on the subject and want to debate ridiculous stuff like "putting sheetrock dusts in your food as a dessicant" and related stupidity.

In other words, they pack a couple buckets and then think they are an expert. Course then new preppers read their stuff and go "yeah, why can't I use lime, soda pop bottles, handwarmers and other ridiculous crap to pack food in." Yet the "six bucket experts" (the folks with pretty much no experience but want to debate tried and true methods used by the professionals) talk with some sort of authority when in reality, what little food they have put up has not been put up long enough to let the dust settle on the tops of the buckets!!!

So it has NOTHING to do with the QUANTITY of buckets someone has stored, nor does it mean I think someone should only store "six buckets". It's simply a derogatory term I made up for those that speak with authority on a subject they don't have enough experience in.

You my friend are not one of these people, you try stuff, you experiment but your smart enough to figure out what works well and what doesn't. Like everyone else, your have failures both long term and short term- God knows I've had a BUNCH of them, but that's how we learn.

I just try to guide folks towards what I KNOW works from a lot of personal and professional experience and 2 1/2 decades of storing food.

    Good going on the packing!

I knew you would get a chuckle 1Admin....

I probably need to start righting down how much i have put up so that I know where I am at.

On a side note I did find a good deal at WalGreens, (2) box of 25 quick-loc gauze pads on sale plus a $1 off MFG coupon on it and I had my employer provided discount card which gave me 15% off. Came out to be about $0.0448/pad.

My oldest stored food is three years, no way I'm gonna deviate from other people's tried and true methods. I don't have the time, money, space or desire to run 10 year long experiments.

FWIW I only have packed about 20 buckets, but have my own youtube video on how to do it :)

Hey great. I just help my parents and my buddy along with a few of my own, We pakaged 22 5 gallon buckets with mylar and oxygen absorbers. I always like to hear about people prepping it make me feel good (mostly that I'm not the only one like this).
