just picked up some buckets for cheap...not free but real cheap, $1 a bucket (including a rubber seal lid).

Super China Mart bakery sells them and they usually have bunches so if you have one close by go talk to them :)

Good find. In our area some sell them, some don't. I always try to sweet talks the gals there for a bit, buy some baked goods, etc.

The local donut shop sells them for $1.50 with the sealed lid. They always have a stack in the corner that you can pick from and they'll even carry them out to your truck while you pick a donut.
What a long, strange trip it's been.....

On this subject I've been looking for a bucket that stores better for years. I can only store so much food at my house. I finally found some bulk cat food that comes in square buckets about 3.5 gallons in size. I got four filled a couple of weeks back and am trying to get the cat to eat more. They don't seal as well as regular five gallon buckets though.

My local grocery store bakeries give me 5 gallon buckets w/ lids for FREE. The local deli gives me free ones as well (but they smell like pickles).

LOL - You SWEET talk the girls at the bakery where they sell SWEET things - is that a pun? If so its a good one.

Our local WM won't sell them, but one about 30 miles away does, so we pick them up when we are there. They are always pretty clean too, they run them through their commercial dishwasher. Which is a big plus to me!

We get ours from BiLo. You have to keep checking with them. We usually get about 5 buckets every 2-4 weeks. We have a small store.

I checked at our Chinamart..they will not sell or give away; liability...see the little pic on the bucket of the child??
But, I went into a deli (IGA) about 21 miles away from home and they are $1..
If I get 8 or more, and save $2.50 per bucket..it is well worth the drive and gas. And they are hammer lids..meaning it takes a rubber mallet to get the lids on.

I just returned from town (Norman) our 2 Chinamarts gave me a total of 10 buckets. Eight of them were the 5 gallon and 2 square, this is a low scoring day it is usually more like 15 - 20.

I bought about 40 food grade buckets with lids that have rubber gaskets From an Amish Market in Laurel Maryland. For a buck each, they were used BBQ sauce 5 gallon buckets. They had been cleaned but smelled like BBQ. So we soaked them in bleach water and killed the smell.

I used to get them at Sams Club for free when I'd buy 50# bags of rice but they told me they recycle them now.

The last ones I got from Craigs List had potato soup in them, $1.

I get mine from the local grocery store and they are free. They are food grade with lids and seals. They are used in the bakery and had icing and stuff in them. All I have to do is clean them out and they are ready to go. They come in all sizes from 1 gallon to 4 gallons. They are round and square and I get the handles for free. They throw them away if I dont come get them.
