When using mylar bags to store bulk potato flakes, should you put in dessicant packs as well as O2 adsorbers? I searched the archives but got no response.
Thanks

I only used O2 absorbers, some I vac sealed with the food savor and mason jasrs
Thanks guys, I just had a passing thought about humidity trapped in the bag. I'm about to store 120 lbs and I just wanted to be sure. Everyone seems to have the same opinion. Thanks Again
Should be just fine. We packed thousands of lbs. of potato flakes in #10 cans and SuperPails in the late 90's and never had nor heard of a problem with any of them.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"
Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"
Way back when, Sam's Club used to have 25 lb. bags of potato flakes. From the outside of the bag they felt like granular insulation but they tasted really good LOL
I have most of my instant mash flakes stored in glass with rubber gasket seals, no O2 absorbers or dessicants, Some of the older stuff has changed colour slightly, from white to cream- but even flakes from ten + years still mashes and tastes fine.
NB. I like it mixed with chicken and crouton powdered soup in a plastic pint mug for breakfast when I'm camping/hiking.
We must be an off couple. We actually eat more mashed potato flakes than we do by going through the process of actually making mashed potatoes. It is just quicker and the taste is actually good. The boxes never last long enough for me to store long term.
Can we still Lts potato flakes from the walmart boxs (put in mylar bags with absorbers packs)? And they'll be safe for how much longer than what the box says? We run across good deals on the boxs so this would be a good way for us.
These sound interesting. It sounds like something I need to check into I had never considered them for long term storage sounds great. I am new into the canned and pails for long term storage. Always just stored 100 to 150 lbs potatoes in the cellar and when they were gone just didn't eat potatoes tell the new crop... ;o)
I have a question along the same lines. I heard this morning that the ingredients of hand warmers is the same as 02 absorbers. The person talking said that in a large bucket the amount of chemical in the hand warmer is plenty.

Why risk putting something substandard on your food? Oxyabsorbers are cheap. Ever see a company put a handwarmer in their stuff to save money? If them cheapskates wont do it....
