  • Rain water barrel setup.

    Hello all
Does anyone have a schematic of a rain water barrel setup?
I live I sunny south Florida, where the rains come every day in the summer.
I have a 1 story house with gutters going around

We have used the standard 55 gallon screw top pickle barrels. Use a piece of window screen stretched tightly over the hole, then screw the flange back on over the screen. You'll leave the solid top piece off.

Drill a 3/4 hole near the bottom and attach a hose bib to a 3/4 threaded connector that you'll place inside the barrel. Teflon tape for the thread and a little silicon caulk to cover a multitude of sins in any hole drilling and you'll be set.

If your roof is shingles and relatively new (i.e, the last couple months and little rain), let a few more rains wash off any residual from the shingles. Put it up on a couple blocks. You can also plumb an overflow near the top into another barrel that sits on the ground if so desired.
