  • 17% Price Increase at Bob's Red Mill

Last week I was putting together a large order with a few like minded individuals for grains and beans at Bob's Red Mill. Apparently we did not move quick enough because the list prices on the items (and quantities) that we wanted to purchase effectively had a 17 percent price increase as of June 1. Attached is a PDF of the spreadsheet we are using to track prices and build our order.

Now the good news is that they are going to give us wholesale pricing on everything on our order because we are over 1,000 pounds of product (half a pallet). The effective discount of wholesale pricing is about 20% of the June list prices. I only wish we would have placed the order in May!

The important point in all this is that prices on basic food commodities continues to go up.

Anyone know of a source like Bobs Red Mill on the east coast or southeast that sells bulkd grains and beans? It is a long way (expensive) to ship from the west coast.
    thanks

On the east coast, your best source is a local LDS cannery (Latter Day Saints / Mormons)... I have not been to one yet, but I have heard good things from those who have. No need to be a Mormon AT THIS TIME... but I suspect that may change as times get worse. They will start keeping what they have for their members...

It must be the liberal-cesspool, PETA_loving, earth-mother-t!tty town we live near (Charlottesville) that keeps all the bulk grains out of here... I have not found bulk grains anywhere here (Sam's Club, Walmart, Big Lots, grocery stores). I can "special order" it from Whole Foods, which is not too bad price-wise, but they only carry hard red winter and soft spring wheat.

They(LDS) have food storage for the masses for when things get bad. Its a part of their prepping philosophy. However they do keep their own food storage seperate from that which they are willing to share. I'm not a mormon, but know lots of them.

LDS in Atlanta (Tucker, GA) is not open to the public. I was at a local farmer's market Saturday and found a possible health food source in the country near Carrollton that has been selling bulk grains/beans supposedly for the last 7 yrs. She appeared to have a good knowledge of bulks and said she could order 25 and 50 lb bags of grains and beans. I am going to her location Tue or Wed and will advise what I learn. If it works out, it maybe a good source for preppers in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama.
