After a lot of research on water filtration unit for the homestead, I made a decision to go with the Monolithic Marketplace bucket system. http://shop.monolithic.com/collectio...-bucket-system
It is described as, "A ceramic, .2 micron water filter. The micron removes water-borne bacterium. The inside of the filter is loaded with different media or ingredients, such as man-made carbons, mother nature carbons and man-made resins. Those different resins and carbons remove the different contaminants in the water.
The entire unit is under $50. Replacement filter parts only add another $35 to the price. I thought it reasonably priced back up system to filter water from a rain water colllection system.
My water conditions are:
I have a 255 ft drilled well that is 200 ft from and 25 ft lower than my house.
I also have a small, non-drought proof spring that is 850 ft from and 80 ft lower than my house.
Current plans:
Complete a rainwater collection system.
Research the best way to pump water from the well and/or get same to house or holding tanks under rear deck. (wind power is not feasible)
I will post a review of the water filtration system shortly. It came today. Any advice on my getting water up from the well and to the house would be appreciated.
