  • Sodas and Cold Weather = Cleanup

Mental note to self - make sure all the sodas get taken out of the camper before sub zero temps hit for extended periods of time.

    Son,
Wastin' Dr. Pepper is a sin in this family. :(
wow! I've done that, more than once. Heck recently, I opened the fridge, grabbed some eggs to make an omelette, and upon cracking, discovered they were partially frozen. Looked at the thermostat, and someone (probably under >=3 years of age, I got two that fit that bill right now) had turned the thermostat to the coldest setting.

LOL yep but it kept me off the streets LOL and I forgot I had a whole case of mt dew in the cabinet.
It was kind of a rush job when i brought the camper in back home in november, we deer hunted one day, drove home and washed linen, dishes, clothes and cleaned out the camper but left alot of things in it, I cleaned and fully processed 4 deer on the 3rd day and moved on 4th day to our new house.
I thought ah no big deal, not thinking it would be below zero for 9 days with 5ft snow drifts solid freezing and rupturing everything. I've just been waiting for a nice day to get it cleaned up and yesterday was it. Just something for someone else to think about so they don't have to clean it up too! I talked to my mom about it yesterday and she told me that she had some in her attached garage and it had got cold enough in there to rupture hers too.
I know sodas aren't "survival" food however I wouldnt turn them down even post SHTF so storage needs to be thought about and this extreme temp got them. I have stored them for a month in 130 degree desert heat with no issues.

I have a canned ham, vegtables and chicken in the pantry that seems to be uneffected. I always keep about 3-5 days of food in there and I figured it was lost too but doesn't seem to be. I dunno

Oh good. Our 5th wheel is loaded with canned goods we neglected to remove last year. I've been dreading even going out there for fear of the mess I'd find. You give me hope & encouragement!

Dr. Pepper is a great marinade for meat. I know it sounds weird, but if you've never tried it, check some recipes on google. YUM!
Also Root Beer is great for pulled pork in the crockpot......................
