  • DIY storage food

    Hello all,
I went to Costco yesterday. Purchased rice and beans. I have 6 gallon buckets, mylar bags and o2 absorbers. Gonna seal them tonite. :) I want to store salt and sugar also. The only salt I found was non-iodized. Is this a problem? What sugar is best for LTS?
What else are people storing in the DIY way. I have purchased storage foods online, but now it is getting harder to fill orders and.... it's less expensive to go to Costco, filling buckets....etc.
Any advice or insight is extremely welcome.
    Thanks!!!!

    No problem with non iodized.

Standard white granulated sugar is best for LTS.

Most other dry products lend themselves to storage in this way. Just avoid things with baking powder (mixes).

I disagree. Especially with the majority of preppers out there dependent on a large precentage of prepackaged food. Furthermore, I'd wager a vast amount of preppers (namely the fad preppers) haven't a clue on 100% scratch cooking...especially baking bread from an outdoor homemade oven.

then it wouldnt matter the salt they used would it........;)

wanna post pics of your outdoor oven till then.......

signal to noise....lets keep it level...i hate angles......

Well it's like the stupid "the buckets I got that previously had donut icing aren't specifically marked "for food use" so I don't know if I can use them for food" stupid time wasting non sense...

Non iodized salt or no salt at all?

The only salt I found was non-iodized.

People can easily find enough reasons NOT to prepare.
Surely even the "experts" come with enough ridiculous contrary statements that confuse people. Should we be ENCOURAGING people to store food or DISCOURAGING them to store food?

"Goiter" in the PAW? Yep, bigger problem than plague, millions of unprepared sheep fighting for your resources, NBC contamination, famine, natural disasters, etc.

You'll find that their is the perfect solution which isn't always available and then the less than perfect answer that works. "Bird in the hand versus one in the bush" type deal. Waiting/hoping to find the perfect salt and not having any salt in between or buying some salt now and finding more of the better variety later? I'll choose having some now, most especially with the pace that things are currently moving.

It's like the character in this video- "I was doing research" and therefore got nothing done for years upon years.

Keep it civil folks. I don't care how many posts you can rack up in a day's time, spitting in the face of an unpaid Moderator that helps us all out here isn't a good way to win friends and influence people.
