  • Grain Mills

I've been reviewing several different hand grain mills and have pretty much decided on the "Wonder Junior Deluxe" mill because of it's relative affordability.

Does anybody own one of these? Can it produce a bread quality flour as stated on the web site?

Other mill suggestions? I like the country living mill also, but it is out of my price range.

    Thanks.

It is made by Wonder Mill, the ones who make the excellent electric mill...

This is the hand one I will be getting too to replace the cheap one I have... But my electric Wonder Mill is my main machine until it really gets bad and I can't power it, even on the genny... Or it breaks...

It's the one shown above as Rmplstskn notes it is made by Wonder mill (thanks for the pic, rmpl). Current price is $220.

FWI , 7 million people died of starvation! Don't think it can happen again? Your wrong soccer mom! Wake up! and save your children! Was that too harsh? lol! Not! Wake up! non-memebers, reading this!

I just received one last week. It works well and have already made two batches of bread. As for the grind, I do find it to be pretty good. It does make flour fine enough for bread. I made mine out of hard white wheat. I did double grind it to make it a little easier on my arms. It is built really well and I think it will last. It is heavy duty. To break the stones in you have to grind a pound or so at first. Throw that stuff out, it is full of grit (don't ask me how I know). It is simple to put together and prepare for some sore arms- grinding wheat is alot of work. But this mill does put out the flour for the price. I am happy I got it. I ordered extra set of stones and the deluxe comes with stainless steel burrs as well (they don't grind as fine as the stones though). Can't go wrong with this mill.

I have two. One I purchased very cheaply on eBay. The other is a Back to Basics.

This one looks great, but I occasionally found tiny slivers of metal in the flour. It also did not grind as good as others.

I bought this one from recommendations from another thread. Seems several folks liked this one best.

Check out the videos on YouTube made by dsarti1. He puts the mill through some testing and compares it to the one above - I think the one above is a Victorinox or something like that. Once I saw the videos, which there are 4 parts I believe, it made my choice quite easy.

Watching this shows why I plan on on keeping my electric WonderMill running as long as possible, with a genny if needed... LOTS of work to get enough flour for just one bread loaf...

I posted a message to this dude to join me in a weight-loss program... It saddens me to see a guy with such humor and creative skills be so close to death's door due to obesity... Let alone injury or illness due to obesity... He already has skin issues... I hope he changes his ways and he is a warning to people like me who also need to lose weight...

This is a 'blast from the past' from PAW productions - believe it was 2008.

I just got the Wonder Junior Mill as a gift. I got both stones and stainless steel burrs and the clamp and wheel. I have not had a chance to use it, but have handled and inspected it. It is a heavy unit and seems to be very well made with good fit and finish.
