  • Salt at Sam's

Not to long ago, I saw 25lb. bags of Morton salt. I thought, to myself, I'll grab some on the next trip. Well, they no longer have it. I checked the website and not on there either? I forget the price for the 25lb. bag. But they had 4lb. boxes for .98 cents., 12 in a case, so 48lbs. for $12 bucks? Is that good? not sure what everyone else is paying. Not to sound cheap, but I'm laid off, our company closed it's doors, due to the economy, and trying to watch every penny. I don't know any other place to buy bulk salt here in Ohio, without paying some crazy shipping charges.

It's been around $3.50 or so per 25 lb. for years at Sam's. The problem is finding the Sam's that actually carry it.

Not sure about current prices on it though.

Thats a good price! I bought a case, which is 48lbs. Don't know how much to store? don't have to much space. Just trying to get an idea of what everyone else is thinking. I know it might be a good barter item in PAW. I have 75lbs of sugar and want to bump it up to....................

you can go to a farm store and buy a 100lbs of cow salt for less than $20 for canning and preserving, the only thing wrong with it is, it don't have iodine.

I would store as much as you can, salt is used in everything and needful in a lot of things, especially post non electric, non refridge society.

As far as storage, do you have any exposed floor joists? Add a board and a few of those boxes could go in there pretty easy. Everything needs salt to live. It does not just season food.

We get way too much iodine in our diets now, so if you used the un iodine most of the time and supplemented with the iodine salt you would be fine. The iodine was added to salt years ago to combat goiters on peoples necks.

This abnormal growth in size produces what is termed a “goiter.” Thus, iodine deficiency is one cause of goiter development. Wherever iodine deficiency is common, goiter will be common. It remains a common cause of goiters in other parts of the world.

I know with sam's- you can go online, select it and have it ordered to your store that you normally shop it. And usually it is free of charge, the shipping that is.

Please note, that not all stores are the same and they may not do it for you. Worst case, you have it shipped to your house....

My Sams near me did not carry bulk beans or the Morton salt (25ibs) the last time I was there a couple weeks ago. I called the next closest Sams and they said they had just recently stopped carrying bulk beans and Morton salt. Good thing I can visit the Resturant Depot near me as they have rice in 100lb bags and bulk beans, lentils, etc in 50lb bags.
