Anyone know of any problem storing food long term in a 55 gal metal drum previously used for food products? I plan on placing multiple 5 gallon sealed mylar bags in them. I can get them for $8 each.
These had blackberry puree in them from Oregon. The local company I got them from here in Arkansas sells gift baskets of jellies, jams, etc. I found them by calling food processing companies and inquring about any storage containers they might have to give away or sell. There were a lot on craigslist, but couldn't find anything local.
I thought about using strip foam insulation used for sealing windows and doors around the top of the drum before sealing the lid on with the ring to make them more airtight.
