  • Looking for the best pair of cargo type pants...

    Hello,
I have noticed, as well as most everyone else, that they do NOT make clothing the way they used to. A pair of cargo pants from Walley World last me MAYBE 6 months. Granted I wear them to work, but that's still a pretty short life span. So, I have been searching for some cargo pants to store in our clothing preparations that will not rip and tear in the first 6 months, leaving me with holey pants in the PAW. Any suggestions, or reviews would be appreciated.

Also, I have noticed that socks are even worse. They seem to last maybe 4 months before they start getting holes. I want to stock up several packages per person, but am trying to find the best brand. Again, looking for suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I have been wearing LAPG ripstop BDU's for the past 6 months. You can't beat them for their price. I bought 2 pair and have worn them every workday without any rips, tears, or seams coming apart. I ordered them in beige to blend in with the everyday sheeple. I have another order on the way but this time I went with olive green because they won't show dirt as bad.

Their operator pants are probably worth the extra money for the pocket organizer. That's what my son wanted :D

I agree, BDU pants seem like they have good durability - I wear them when I conduct Firefighter training and they have never failed me

Thanks, there are also a large amount of BDUs on Amazon as well, usually you can get free shipping there.

        Now what about socks?

BDU's I cannot say enough great things about. Also Dickies make some great overalls, shorts and jeans that have lasted me years (and I have put them through everything).

Lol- socks is a great question, and here I was going to post something about feet in the next day.

Any thoughts on getting some clothes that are a size or two smaller? I figure that if things get bad and last a while, some folks might slim up a bit, and it would suck to try to just take up the slack with a belt. I'm sure I would be needing a smaller belt size if life changed to the degree where I'm doing manual labor daily to survive, and having the food supply so different than now. The obvious solution would be to get in optimal physical shape now, but that just isn't going to work for everyone.

http://www.lapolicegear.com/closeouts.html with their 5-11s are hard to beat too. Socks, I use merino wool (no itch wool) for winter wear.

I think it depends on the intended use. If you are looking at straight throw-in-a-box-for-TEOTWAWKI pants, it's hard to beat surplus BDUs. Winterweight would be your preferred cloth since it happens to be a lot mnore durable and will last longer. Summerweight is okay as well, but is slightly less rugged.

For more "dressy" occassions but still functional, I'd say 5.11. They have outstanding wear resistance, but happen to be the most expensive. LA Police Gear has them on clearance from time to time, making this not such a big deal.

For straight up "work" pants that are cheaper than most, but still functional and somewhat durable, the LA Police Gear brand of tactical pants is probably the best deal going at less than $20 a pair.

Be careful of the ACU style pants. They are way thinner than the BDUs and don't seem to last as long from what I've seen.

Duluth Trading Co. has clothes made out of fire hose material. I havn't ordered mine yet but they sure sound sturdy. I will order a pair of pants next payday and give a report about them. Not that expensive if they last for a while.

I have several pairs of the Duluth fire hose pants some of these for over three years. They do last they are tuff and I am wearing a pair right now, I will buy more. They seem to shrink a little in length so order them one size longer, they do not seem to shrink in the waist....BTW this shrinkage took two years of washes to accomplish.

The only thing I don't care about from them is the fact they won't ship quite a few things to APO/FPO addresses or they charge extra for it. Not a big concern if you are in the States, but if serving overseas, it's a huge pain.

I order them ( Eotac ) from a few sites , mostly Extreme outfitters . IF you do a google search then check their website , it lists all their vendors . The discreet khakis give all the benefits of normal ones , just look a lot dressier , so great for an office environment .
