  • Vacuum Packing/Mylar Bagging Noodles?

Hey guys. I have about 100 packages of Yakisoba noodles that I got super cheap ($.04 each) with coupons, and they are taking up a lot of storage space. They are like Ramen, but they come in black plastic microwaveable trays. I was thinking of taking them out of the trays and vacuum sealing them or bagging them in mylar with O2 absorbers along with their seasoning packets/dehydrated veggies--probably 2 per bag.

Does this sound like they would last? They would take much less room this way I think. Hubby thinks I am crazy to get so many, but they were so cheap and I am thinking long term, or as long as possible. He is NOT on board with the prepping--yet.

you can pack em in the mylar without issue. However the only main issue would be the oil content of the noddles. It could be a non issue. Im not familiar with those style of pasta. As i mostly store elbow noodles.
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

Lacey, I don't have an opinion of the noodle/mylar packing question.

But I would like to ask. Where do ya'll get your mylar, store, website?

      Thanks

The biggest issue with the pre-prepared type pasta are the ingredients added to make them easy to prepare in the microwave. Regular pasta is so easy to pack and store. Ounce per ounce it's cheaper than anything pre-packaged.

I have buckets of pasta packaged in mylar and I understand that is last years and years.

I get mine off e-bay usually. The LDS store has mylar bags and 02 absorbers as well

Best place to find mylar and oxygen absorbers. Good folks, like minded that support the Preparedness community.

Thanks for those suggestions on finding mylar. That should cut down on my looking.

              I love this place :D

Thank you for the responses to my post. I may just donate them to my local food pantry and women's shelter. I know we won't eat 100 packages of noodles. :)

How much does a 5 Gallon Pail hold? I mean, any feedback as to how many buckets are needed for a 50# bag of wheat vs 50# bag of rice? I want to make sure I have enough pails, mylar, and O2 absorbers before I hit the local LDS and buy bulk bags of LTS items. :)

That's a great question, Klayton. I don't know but I am sure you will get responses from those that do.

50 lb bag of rice will fill 1 and 1/2 buckets.
as will 50 lbs of wheat.

100lbs will do 3 buckets with about 2-4 lbs left over.

                            avg is 30-35lbs per bucket.
