long term food storage question

Sorry new to prepping - question about storing food in 5 gallon buckets -
in Cody Lundins book "When all hell breaks loose" he says about putting salt in the bottom of the bucket for moisture control - does anybody have any thoughts on this?
in James wesley Ralwes book "Surviving the end of the world as we know it" he uses a chunk of dry ice in his- once again what are the thoughts on this.
any ideas on where, other than mail order to buy mylar bags?

Is THAT where the salt thing came from? First I heard it was some knucklehead from Orlando saying you should "sew up little bags of salt with old tshirts". This does NOT take the place of an oxygen absorber!!!

Look at what the professional packing houses do- they do NOT use:
1. Dry ice
2. DE
3. Mylar party balloons
4. Salt as a dessicant/supposed oxygen absorber
5. 2 litre soda pop bottles
6. Idiotic hand warmers in place of oxygen absorbers

The professional packing houses DO NOT USE ANY OF THE ABOVE. Why should you? Because some clown that packed 4 buckets did? Because someone who has been storing food for six months did? 99% of the people out there giving advice on DIY food storage have not packed more than a couple dozen buckets nor have more than a couple short years experience with storing food.

When I travel around to train MA/firearms, whatever. I'll LISTEN to advice from everyone (however listening doesn't mean you DO what they say) , but if their is a white belt giving me advice contrary to a 3 stripe Black belt, you can be damn sure I'll listen to the 3 stripe Black belt with decades of experience versus the new guy with six months.

Sorry for the rant, just try to imagine someone who has devoted so much time to educating people on this subject for a couple decades always hearing about some new clown coming with some crazy "I reinvented the wheel with handwarmers!" non sense.

We probably need a sticky on this to save new folks some time and more importantly MONEY!!

And that my friends is the overal problem with the "stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime" bogus advice from the "food storage white belts" out there, it may seem like it's saving you money NOW, but in the end it's gonna cost you more money and of course, if you really NEED the food one day, it may cost you your life.

I'm gonna start a sticky right now while I'm thinking about it.
