Water Dispenser Bottles

I may have an opportunity to obtain some of these water dispenser bottles. Has anyone ever used or recapped them? If so where do you get the caps and what does it involve? Has anyone ever stored them reused or new for long term?
I know nothing other than I've seen them in offices etc. and drank from one maybe twice in my life. Thats about the extent of my knowledge on these.

We use them on the construction site i'm at right now. What i have done in the past is take that blue cap[ complete off then you can pop ou the mechanism that mates with the machine, and refill them.

As long as you have a machine it works. If you dont' i have used them for a number of things, as a coin jar, as a used motor oil receptacle, as a water jug. I had a co worker that cut it in half and made a turtle habitat out of it.

The person with the account loses a deposit if they are not returned.

wally world sells them and some even have replaceable screw on caps. should be okay if stored properly, direct sunlight for extended period may cause the plastic to prematurely breakdown. get the ones that have the carrying handle as a part of the bottle itself.

I just found a handpump on amazon for $3 that fits on them and replacement caps for under $1. I'm suppossed to inhert some from a friend after I saw them stacked up in his garage. I spoke with him about refilling and saving for bad times and got the old here goes red dawn matt again ribbing but he says he may give them to me. That would be another 45 gal for a good price:)

i run a water bottling plant and we use those. we buy our caps in bulk but you can reuse the old ones if you don't tear them up. simply remove the skirt from the cap and it will snap back in place.

yes, they can be reused and we have bottles more than 10 years old. you have to wash and sanitize them and they're good to go. the problem with long term storage is the quality of the water you put in them. we have a purification system that utilizes reverse osmosis, oxygen and ozone generation and UV sanitization of the water before it enters the bottles. our water is guarranteed to remain free of pathogens for 5 years if unopened. of course, if you just fill one with tap water and forget it you'll have a real nice algae farm in no time.

sunlight will NOT make the plastic break down and no harmful chemicals will leach into the water over time. actually, sunlight will treat the water with UV and help retard growth of pathogens.

I always treat my water with bleach and I rotate it every 6mths so no algae farm hopefully. I think I have a storage place out of the light for them too.

bleach is ok, but treatment with a UV light is much better.
