The bait I bought was dry pellets that expended when wet. They were in from what I could tell, air tight mini buckets sort of how 5 gallons of paint is stored. I've used dog food with almost as much success as this fish food, but until the PAW, my dogs eat chicken n rice, oats n whatever we can hunt and forage.. Fish eat pellets and hard foods ;)Originally posted by Matt In Oklahoma View PostI have a smiliar one that I use with dogfood. It also seems to attract alot of small snakes too! LOL
I have a couple of questions if you dont mind. Do you think their bait works better than the dry dogfood? How long does the bait store? Does it have to be refridgerated after opened?

I've had a lot of fun with it though. All the neighbors by my dads house were amazed when I showed up and dropped 3 traps in, sat down, had a few beers with them, cooked hot dogs, then spent 2 hours cleaning fish for the fish fry the next day. Because the size of these traps I know they aren't always practical, but they work, and I flip mine on the side so I get me some crawdaddies as well as the perch and bluegills. Good eats!
As far as refridgeration, I guess I never tried that. I've been on the same 10 gallons for a year or so without any bad results so far... but my fishing season is from april - sept.. Not very long.

What did you use for bait? I've just used scrap pieces of meat or fishOriginally posted by MustangGal View PostThose look a lot like the traps we used for crawdads. If we put them too close to shore, we caught snakes too. Yuck! But at 8-10 feet, we would catch crawdads that were 12-13 inches from claw to claw.Knowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

I just stick my hand in the water and catch them free style! :D This one just jumped right in my hand....I am sure it was at least an 8 pounder!
Haha...this is actually one of only two fish I have ever caught and my son swears the second fish was the same one! I think I would go hungry if I ever had to solely rely on my fishing skills/know-how!

It's been a loooong time since I have been fishing (yes sucks I know), but they actually sell "fishing" chemlights. They are itty bitty chemlights that you attach to a bobber for night fishing. They work AWESOME. I think they are around one-and-a-half inches long is all. BONUS: the "light" at night also attracts fish to the bait. WINNING!!

Doing some digital housekeeping and found some results of bowfishing a bit back:
Bow used for fishing from pawn shop $50
Her bow $50
Reel attachment $10
Reels $20
Zip Tie for her reel 50 cents
Looking at that smile on your Daughters face -Priceless
Not my first choice for a meal but in hard times...
Some were taken from the bank and 2 from the boat. One was literally right after I woke up, looked out and saw him on the bank feeding. The boat method is easier because the fish are facing away from you as you approach while they feed on the bank. When you are doing this from the bank slow movements and cover if possible are a must. High poundage bows are not needed or even desired for this so almost anyone can manage as long as it has enough to penetrate the scales. Gar are a little tougher plated. This is the best time of year while it's hot to use this method. When it's cold the fish head for deeper water and stay till the waters begin to warm again. Polarized glasses really help to see them under the water.Knowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

Yes, the arrows have a line attached to them in order to be retrieved.Originally posted by Herms View PostVery interesting, do you have some sort of line attached to your arrows to prevent loosing them?
However, all Matt has to do is give the fish a stern look and they jump into his boat and attach themselves to the stringer.Last edited by Grand58742; 08-02-2012, 02:01 AM.Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.
