What do you all do with empty mags in SHTF scene. I have always used a skeet shooters bag to put empties in. Mags are not a renewable resource. I also wanted to keep separate from loaded mag pouch. I train to drop them but I try to police up before I move, not always the best thing to do but , that is why I'm asking. Ideas?

What to do with empty mags

I try to look at this via a couple dimensions-
1. Never say never, never say always.
No absolutes. "Always retain" or "always leave" them is stupid, period.
2. Situation dependent to a large extent. Firing and moving in pairs or fire teams, working to keep the pressure on to press an attack, probably won't be time to stow, especially if your not REALLY used to stowing quickly and efficiently. On the flip side of that is if your behind cover, there is the time, sure, stow them.
3. Yes you can't grow more, but flip side of that is that your life isn't worth the $8-15.? Have more, dozens more, preferably a 100 or so extras back at the retreat, stashed in the woods, pre-positioned, in ready bags, etc.
When I teach shooting skills to people I'll have them shoot courses wherein their is points they COULD stow during it if they went dry and places where they would be wasting time stowing. I try to do that to show people the options of doing it and not doing it and where that could come up.
Filling ammo cans I try to place a couple of new mags in with each 500-700 rounds or whatever can fit in the can. Then if the can is grabbed to re-supply someone, there is a few mags in there to round out as need be.
My son went with me to Max's a couple times last year. On RS and CTT I brought about 35 mags pre loaded, then about 3K of other ammo. The leaves were dropping on the CTT ranges and it was THICK, I mean I was helping with some maintenance for Max on the pop up targets and I used a rake on some areas of the trails because the leaves were knee deep or more in places. A couple people dropped mid way through the class and my son got a chance to run double drills the last day- basically run it once with our team, quick break then run it again with the third time. "Tactical Daddy" was reloading mags like crazy between runs to keep us both supplied. As we were getting near the end, I noticed the three 5 mag bags we had brought extra (to have some ready to go in case you didn't have time to reload) were almost empty. A total of between 10 and 12 AK mags were not policed up or not found. Hopefully I'll find them next trip up there or someone else has and stuck them in the schoolhouse already. They were all taped.
Morale of the story, it was a helluva lot of drills of the nature that you would be doing post SHTF and despite everyone policing their mags after each run, we were still down a boat load of mags at the end.
He got 10 mags for Christmas that had bright orange and red REFLECTORS taped on them :) LOLwww.homesteadingandsurvival.com

Reflectors lol ...
I use the Chinese five cell bags...and German buttpacks..they have a shoulder strap and Will hold near 20 mags.
I have put a drop pouch on my belt yet. Have one but I need a small one. As there's not enough room on my belt.
But
I I train to drop...if permits ..I shove then back in..or in my thigh pocket or behind my chest rig. Slide one in under the arm pit..they seem to hold there for a but.
But I do need a two row fold up one..Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!
