  • Beretta 92 still the military pistol?

Is the Beretta 92 still the military issue pistol? Is there a specific variation?

My son is considering the military and I will try to get him trained up in things he needs to know. I don't own a Beretta, the Taurus is close but he's mostly just trained on the Glocks.

What civilian available pistol is the closest to the military issue?

You can pick up an M9 or a 92F.
Had one a while back. Good shooters IMHO

Basically the safety being higher on the frame is the only real difference between that and a Taurus 99 or 92? I really hate to add another pistol that takes different magazines to the stable if I don't have to. Then it's spare parts, 20 or 30 mags for training, etc. Might just dig out one of the old Taurus models and have him work with that.

it looks like the mil uses several different brands of pistols depending on branch and unit.

"Considering" is the word, so no congrats as of yet LOL. He's not your typical wishy washy kid as your well aware though ;)

Had HRC gotten in, this would have never became a consideration. He's figured out that he probably has only 4 years until another butt-tard liberal gets in to POTUS so it's probably not a long term career at this point. And a lot could happen in the time remaining before hand as well.

But as a father, my job is to get him ready as best I can. So that's the plan..... Good thing I like to train huh?

I have a friend who was the armorer for a large police dept. The only thing he ever saw with the over 100 92s he worked on was rust at the ejector pin and ejector where it attaches to the frame. LEOs aren't the best at keeping their sidearms clean, so he would have to take the 92s completely apart and put them in an ultrasonic cleaner for an hour or more and replace the pins and at times the ejectors. But that was all of the problems that he saw over the many years and hundreds of 92s that he saw. I suppose that is as close to combat circumstances as one could get outside of a real theater.
