  • Precision rifle- back to the future

So I need to outfit a .308 bolt gun. My others have been Savage 110 tactical models and I've outfitted them with Springfield Armory Gen II and Gen III government model scopes that have 1,000 yard .308 match BDCs on them. No mil dot.

I absolutely love this reticle and it's worked well for me out to 1,100 yards. Scope's BDC is calibrated to 1,000 but the 1,100 yard shots were very lucky adjustment/hold over deals. At 800 it rings steel like a bell.

Been reluctant to go the mil dot route and it seems almost everything uses that now.

The huge plus I like on the SA scopes is the rangefinding brackets and the BDC. While everyone is pulling out their laser range finders, then turning turret knobs and crunching numbers, I'm using the brackets to range and transitioning to the trigger faster.

Is there anything NEW made like these any more? Should I just grow up and learn a new system? There is some benefit to having all these rifles with essentially the same scope.

    Just me

Just me and I'm probably being dopey but I use the Leatherwood ART scopes. mostly the new ones.
Jim turned me onto them some 10 years ago.
Go the chart to set the rings for the bullet load I'm using, just bracket the shoulders and I'm there.
Usually just do paper plates at 700m.

I'm sure there's better out there but these still work for me.

I believe Shepard/shepherd? scopes are still around . Made in US have etched in range marks, based on your ballistic info. It is under sheperdscopes.com. Price is not too bad and they work just like the SA model.
