  • M1A CQB model, any expereince with them?

I have a full size M1A. It's a very picky eater and had to be sent back right off the bat to have a new barrel put in.

Been looking at this CQB model of the M1A. Major ergonomics are similar to an AK- mag rocks in on angle, charging handle on right side. Only the safety is different.

Anyone have first hand experience with this model?

Know guys that have it and their scout. I think that's the one a tad longer.
I'd be happy with one lol .
My concern would /is like yours ...dependability.

I have only fired one as our state DNR officers now have had them for a few years. It was ok but was picky on ammo. Contrary to my- M1A that was older ran everything, and the M14 I carried in RVN would eat anything I put in it. That short barrel is loud and I can't help but think that it would affect the gas curve to operate the bolt and carrier/piston.(NO ADJ). At the cost I would get DSA Arms FAL carbine , if they still make them. They have an ADJ for gas and I have put a lot of odd ball ammo through it, ( but it is evil black) . But I really do like the M-14 also.

I have one of the older SOCOM 16 M1A shorty rifles. It has never had an issue. Goes bang every time, short and handy.

So I bite the bullet and paid about $700. for a new Springfield Armory M1A Socom model. I've been building up credit card "miles" that also redeem for dollars, so I am using some of that free money (I've paid the CC off every month since 08) to pay for the rifle.

First 60 rounds this afternoon- I didn't have a boatload of time. Shot the steel at 100 yards just to see if it needed any crazy amount of zeroing, it was on right out of the box.

Used some Monarch 308 that had run flawlessly in my full size M1A. The fourth round fired was a double feed, yes the literal 4th round. This is definitely not an AK...

The rest of the rounds ran without any problem.

It's a beastie that much on that small a platform. The adjustable stock is nice but beats the crap out of your cheek. I'll be mounting an Israeli bandage there and taping over it at my best cheek weld spot soon. That's worked with all my bolt guns and instead of something useless, you always have a bandage with you if need be.

It came with some XS tritium front post. Given that I have an ACOG on the full size, I'll probably either transfer that over to this one, or eventually add an ACOG to this one. It has a little rail space- like rail'ettes on the forend. I might put an OTAL-C IR laser on one of those so this transfer right over to use with the PVS14s easily.

This was my "big" rifle purchase pre-election, hopefully I won't be complaining about it jamming all the time LOL.

My M1A is a Standard Model, built in 1994. I checked part numbers against a list from Different's website, and most of the smaller assemblies in my rifle are USGI. Bolt, trigger group, etc.
Mine has never caused me any problems, I like it because it is so much like the M14's Uncle Sammy issued to me.
