  • What ear pro?

What hearing protection are you using?

Have used just cheapie plugs for 30 years now, still prefer them in the type of setting wherein you will be moving around more, etc.

My son was having a hard time hearing me with the plugs in. I bought him a pair of Howard Leight with the electronic noise suppression. I swear his response to corrections during shooting got quicker and as a result he's shooting more and enjoying it more.

He has forgotten to turn them on a time or to. Usually just whispering something like "she looks so cute in her pretty dress with her AK" (referring to him lol) usually lets me know if I need to remind him to turn them on. He's a good sport and gives back as good as he gets.

What are you using for ear pro? What about the cool daddy ones that allow you to communicate between others? Play music?

I should probably buy an Ipod so I can have some musak while I'm practicing. Something like that song with "let the bodies hit the floor! Let the bodies hit the floor!" in it would be good. LOL
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Sordin Pro for me... Cheaper amplified ones for wife & daughter. For big guns, I put foam plugs and my Sordins.

Sordins now fit nicely under my ACH helmet as well.

The Sordins don't really "cut out" like the cheaper ones. rather it cuts off the highs and allows voices and range noises to come through even when rounds are firing. This is a VERY NICE feature. The cheap ones just cut out, so it cuts out the firing, but also the voices and range noises.

The Sordin amplification is also a very quality stereo gain. You really can hear MORE than you would normally, so excellent for hunting and hiding & waiting for game.

Lots of other good ones too...

I do not have the audio connector or mic jack. These were expensive as they were, I had to cut my loses somewhere.

They are also 100% waterproof without the jack openings. So that is a plus...

Depends on what I'm doing. If training definately electronic muffs. If major cal. rifle squishies and electronic Muffs. On my helmet, vest, war belt, LBE, I carry squishies in case of SHTF. May, or may not have time to put in.
I really Like the Howard Leight's the best. They are best quality of all three electronic muffs I own. Have had for 5+ years and still going strong and love the fact they can be plugged into 2 way radios/comms. Never had a problem with the electronics and the AAA batteries are long lasting. Easy to change Batteries as well.

My Peltor 6-S's are my second favorite but I have been through 3 pairs in past 10 years all have had the electronics crap out on them. Also AAA batteries but you have a bit more involve method to change the Batteries. Popping off the cushion and foam to replace. The pairs I have had are not comms compatable.

The Pro Ears "predator Plus" are good to go but The "N" batteries are hard to find and on/off volume switches are easily bumped and turned off/on or volume increased/decreased inadvertently. Battery replacement is quick and easy. Just peel foam inside earcup down and replace batts. But the batteries do work loose under hard abuse, i have rebent metal prongs to stop that.

I have all sorts of plugs/squishies from rubber/silicone to foam... all work.

About ten years ago, I got tired of using my plain ear muffs for hearing protection, plus they were getting old and nasty.

Since then, I have tried a few different hearing protection options. Here is my experience.

Ghost Stryke Electronic Ear Plugs – Jumped in on the pre sale for these before they were released to the open market. Overall, I like them. Pretty comfortable to wear, noise cut off works well. What I don’t like is the price and the quality of the build materials in the battery compartment (small tangent, these were being marketed as another hearing protection option for the military. After seeing how the compartment for the battery held up, I would believe a guy in the sandbox would tear these up in a month). They work great for hunting and shooting around a lot of people (you can hear everything and don’t interfere with hats). If I was constantly five feet or less from a large caliber firearm, I would step up to full on muffs and leave these in the range bag.

Dillon's HP1 Electronic Hearing Protector – for keeping sound out and being able to hear everything, I feel these muffs are a great value for the money. I can wear them for hours and not have them bother me. The only complaint I have about them is, they are large. Sometimes they interfere with me mounting my check onto the stock. And if you have and adjustable comb stock with wood that you half way care about looking nice, the volume knobs dig into the wood. This is what led me to start using the Ghost Stryke.

Peltor Tactical 100 Electronic Hearing Protector – Jumped on the home depot band wagon last holiday season when they sold these for about $50 out the door and bought a pair of these. The fit is fine (not awesome, not bad) they have a 3.5mm jack to plug in a radio/ipod. Main complaint is, the amplified sound is almost too quite. I find it hard to hear the amplified sound if there is a sound occurring in the distance that is loud but doesn’t cut off the microphone. Also, it take a little longer than the dillon or Ghost Stryke for the sound to turn back on.

foam plugs – they are what they are. Good cheap hearing protection that will let you know if you don’t clean your ears good enough.

SureFire EarPro EP3 Sonic Defenders – I haven’t found a size that fits my ears correctly for these to work as they should and be comfortable. The times I did get them to fit, they were a great step up from the foam plugs.

3M Peltor 6S Tactical Hearing Protection Ear Muffs (neckband) – I had the worst experience with these. The wire behind the head neckband would not keep the muffs tight against my head. This lead to sound entering the inside of the muff and making them ineffective. Next the electronics when to crap in these muffs after the third time I used them. They are now used in the garage when loud power tools need to be used.

I think ill just get my car wrapped in multicam .... :)

I used. Silicone peltor plug style but my favorites are ones I got in the 90s...soft silicone with baffles ...can't recall the maker but the others I have like them just aren't soft enough and are to muffled for me...

I forgot about Protus's love of Gucci-Flage, Should not of put so much in one photo. LOL. I also HAD a Kryptek Highlander cover given to me as well but a Buddy fell in love with it and I had to give it to him, just to shut him up. If anyone is wondering I received them from SOE.
