  • Estwing Tomahawk

I'd read about it, looked at it on the web.
    Found Home Depot carried them.

So while buying nails at Home Depot I looked around.
Sure enough they had one version.
Not the leather handle one but the rubber (sort of) handle one.

    I like it very well.
    Well balanced, Estwing quality.
~$35.00 with tax and military discount.

Pretty sure I recommend this one.

BTW, the sheath is black ballistic nylon and tho good, could be better.
Retaining snaps don't have enough fabric past the snap to make them easy to pop loose.
Figure I can come up with a better one, likely milsurplus..

Anyway it's a big improvement over the old throwing hawk I've had for forever.
This and the Ontario Spec Plus SPAX are both good but I'm gonna tend to carry the Estwing from now on.

I have its bigger brother. Not full-sized, but big enough to cut scrub, limb trees, and easier to maintain per use than a chainsaw... US-Made is also what I try to do when possible... Good value, will be around years after me...

I have the Estwing hatchet, not tomahawk. It has the curved leather washer handle and came with a leather belt sheath.
I got it at Home Depot about 8 years ago for right around $40.
It is a sturdy tool for camping, woodlot maintenance, and other small tasks that don't require a full size ax.
And, I suppose, in the absence of a firearm it would be better than a knife for self defense.
