  • Any thoughts on .327 Federal Magnum?

I've recently gotten interested in the .327 Mag round. It looks like a heck of a powerful round, comparable in most ways to the .357 mag, without the recoil of the bigger magnum. It also allows you to fire the .32 H&R mag and .32 S&W Long in it, greatly expanding its usefulness.

Any thoughts from more experienced heads?

    Hi BDB,
I haven't heard about the .327 yet will have to check it out on you tube...
That being said I have 9 mm and 45 for pistol with a couple .357's for my odd ball and I wouldn't want to add another caliber regardless of performance especially in pistol. I am a rifleman even though I carry 45 daily handgun just gets me to my rifle if SHF..
I have .223 308 30-06 and 300 win mag with a few sks and aks, and m1 carbine for the odd balls. I have thousands of 30 cal bullets in various weights to interchange on 30 cals plus at least 2k loaded up per cal.
Just something to consider on actually shooting plenty to know the round plus being able to afford to stockpile enough to not worry about resupply.

i place the .327 in the same pile as rounds like the 357 sig or the 45gap interesting and fun to play with but of no real value to me in the long term. From a strictly survivalist point of view ammo for the 327 would be about as hard to find as free health care post event....That being said however just talking about fun factor it does look like a cool round but then so did the 41 mag.. just sayin

I'm going to have to agree that while the .327 may be a great round, the availability of the ammo is going to be problematic at best. I would say that keeping with the common calibers is your best bet. You can also pick up caliber conversion kits or adapters that would allow you to shoot other ammo out of your common caliber guns.

Personally I've picked two of the common calibers and stuck with the, for my primary carry guns. I like others have an oddball in the .357/38spl. But that is more of a backup role for me personally.

This would be a fun gun for me; I've already got all my SHTF needs handled, both long guns and handguns. Since I reload finding ammo is less of a problem than it normally would be. Plus, I talked my local range into letting me sort thru their spent brass for brass. In two months, I've accumulated a whopping 16 empty cases, lol- not a lot of shooting going on in the caliber.
I'll keep my eyes open for a deal but its is more a 'want' than a 'need'.

          Thanks!

I like the .327 for all the same reasons that you listed. I don't have one, but I find it very appealing. I've read comments about the unavailability of ammo for "oddball" calibers like the .327, but I've found the the ammo that has been hardest to find for the past year is the most common calibers -- .22LR and 9mm especially. Things might be different where you live, but that's how it's been in my neck of the woods. No end in sight. The oddball calibers have been much more available. Chalk it up to supply and demand. Being different can work in your favor. Given that you are a reloader, I see no reason in the world for you to resist the .327 Mag any longer. Go for it.

I live in the country and we have a small farm. I always have a handgun when out on the property. Right now that is most often a Single Six w/magnum cylinder during the day.
But after dark, when the woodland creatures are out looking for the all-you-can-eat chicken buffet I need something bigger.
              I have been using either a S&W 38 Special or a Colt 32-20. I think a .327 would be nice so I could also use 32 H&R magnum.
And what is all this about "oddball" calibers? Of course, I guess I never fit expectations.
I stock ammo in 22 different calibers and gauges and have at least one gun for each. Most, more than one.
How cool is a 1940 H&R Model 120 Game Gun bolt action 16 gauge shotgun?:D
              45-70, 8MM Mauser, 32ACP? 45 Colt, 44 Special, 44 magnum?
