  • Quality Red Dot with low price point. Lucid HD7

Made in China. If that is a roadblock read no farther friend. No affiliation at all and not trying to sell anything but after weighing costs, etc and a lot of factors I bought a Lucid HD7 Gen 3 Red dot. Out of the box it was solid feeling, unlike a lot of other china-made optics. Heck there are a lot of American made optics that stink. Anyway, I mounted it on my AR15 and after 8 shots I was in the black at 25 yards. I am a decent shot. Havent missed a deer since my teen years. I am now 42 and my eyesight is not that great and have stigmatism in my shooting eye. That aint good. This optic solved that for me as they have a 2x magnifier that cleared up the sight picture a lot. When I moved the target back to 100 yards I fired a whole magazine in cadence and with this optic I had a 2 inch group. Which is what the red dot is rated for! I have never shot that well. I was using a bipod, but that was it. The target was clear the red dot was crisp. The dot is small enough that at 100 yards it does not cover the whole target. Mounts very snug to rail and doesnt move. Has 4 different reticles. Just an awesome optic. Best thing is the price. I paid 179 at opticsplanet.com for it. There are quite a few reviews of the product on Youtube, but be careful there as some of the reviews were from the gen 1 and 2 versions. In the pictures I show a 100 yard 3 round cadence shot that blew my mind, but was just like the mag dump in cadence in terms of being right on target. The other is a picture of 2 rifles (gun ****) and the lucid hd7 is on the rifle on the right. In the reviews, some of the reviews drop the rifle on the optic to "test" the robustness of the red dot and it held zero after dropping like an eotech or Aimpoint, but at a 1/3 the cost. I only put 100 rounds down range with this this weekend, but was so impressed I wanted to share.

We are all pinching pennies trying to gear up, and $300 dollars more for a red dot of equal quality is a lot of wasted rice n beans.

Ok got a few questions cause I know ziltch bout these but am always interested in such things.
    Thanks for posting first off

The Eotech shines in keeping both eyes open in tight CQC environments and is fast to pick up, this kinda looks more like a scope so is it comparable or more like a scope?

I like the color, hows the weight of it in comparison to aimpoint or eotech?

With the 2x magnifier the range of view shrinks a bit. Without the magnifier the Both eyes open method works great. Technically (at least as I was instructed) you arent to shoot with red dots with just one eye anyway. This one works great though. I think Trijicon calls it Bindon Aiming Concept (BAC) after the founder of the company. Anyway the weight (13 oz) is a little more that the aimpoint (11) and Eotech (10) by 2 and 3 ounces, but well under the Elcan Specter which is 1.4 lbs in weight. That screw in magnifier adds almost 2 inches onto the optic so bear that in mind when you look at it. I havent played with the bullet drop compensator reticle yet, but on some reviews on youtube a guy was engaging 18" steel targets at 300 yards with it repeatedly. Pretty cool. I will give the BAC a looksee tonight when I get home with the magnifier on it and let you know what i think.

Okay. SRY for taking so long for the BAC looksee. I looked thru the optic with the magnifier on it and while acquisition was slower than an eotech because the field of view got narrower, once you open both eyes it stays on target just as well. At that point you just want a crisp sharp red dot, and the lucid delivers.

What type of warenty and customer service come with it? That is my selling point with all things electronic. What type of batteries dose it take, and average lifespan? I use aimpoints but need several more for some bang sticks without any and cant afford all Aim Points. and a backup never hurts... 2 is one, 1 is none...

Warranty...not sure. Hope I dont need it. But had a question and sent an email to their website. Answer was 4 hours later from the owner of the company with the answer I was looking for. My question was more for the Lucid L5 that I have purchased as well.

Red dot uses one AAA battery. 2 hour auto shutoff.

Sight is so good I bought the long range L5. Basically a Nightforce Clone. So out to 700 yards with my AR-10I am pretty accurate. Good clear glass. For shorter engagements I flip off the ADM mount that holds the L5 and drop the HD7 on and I can engage to 250 comfortably with that red dot. I now own 2 hd7's and one l5 from the company. I am very satisified.
